So it's been awhile since I posted. A lot of things happen unrelated to 4x4 rigs and overlanding. But I do have a another mod show you guys. I have two dogs that take on almost all my trips. So my back seat is always folded flat for them. Which is great for them but it really cuts storage down...
I spent about twenty dollars and a couple of hours installing thin(ish) and thick weather stripping on the tailgate and the door to the shell. The stuff between the tailgate and the bed is called ESI ROK BLOCK Tailgate Gap Cover I got it from Amazon. Unfortunately it's unavailable at the moment...
For me, a good tight fitting bed cap solved the issue of cleanliness (plus, stinky things in the bed of the truck don't affect me in the cab). That said, side opening windows or a slide out tray or both make things a lot easier to load and unload the bed. But it was worth the investment for me...
Agreed. Additionally, Tacoma's have a higher load rating by several hundred pounds. One of my primary reasons for choosing the Tacoma over a 4Runner. It won't take much to overload a 4Runner (without a lot of expensive suspension upgrades) if you're building an overlanding rig for a family of...
Today the project of converting heavy steel steps to true rock sliders welded to the frame was completed. My truck was not built for rock crawling but there's always the possibility of that "oh crap" moment coming down off a ledge or something. This will definitely save the rocker panels.ACH]

What kind of trips are you envisioning? Lots and lots of off road? Or a mix of on/off road? What's the expected range with the stock tank? If you are near or above 650 miles per tank it's probably not necessary for an extra in bed tank (imho). If you do need more range, does an in bed tank...
Finished up some electrical mods today. Multiple USB charging ports in the dash. A 12v plug up under the dashboard next to the kick panel for powering window mounted stuff. Like a dash camera and or an action camera. I can now run the power cords under my dash mat and down behind the doors seals...
While the truck will never be "done", I'm mostly done with the big purchases for the truck. The next reasonably big purchase is a full set of skid plates. Probably from RCI in Colorado. All in all, I've done more than 50 mods and/or upgrades to the FUNHOGN Tacoma so far.
Somewhere along my build process I put a factory roof rack and a cargo basket attached to that. Next came a Rhino Rack aero bar for my bed shell so I could put Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform on that. In turn that holds the awning and four lights. Two face to the rear for backing up or setting up...
Keep an eye on Sam's Club. I bought two of them new from Sam's Club for less than $70 each (seasonal closeout). Before mounting them to the truck, I sprayed the tops and sides with Plasti-Dip to protect them from UV degradation. If the plasti-Dip gets scratched off It's easy to re-apply.
Except for the hook, I finally got the winch installed today. I'll connect the hook tomorrow. I went with the front hitch mount option because I only want to carry it around when I go into the backcountry.
