    exploring the yukon and alaska

Sorry, my very dry humor working on only me.... Looks then like we have everything covered cept maps. I love to use maps. And, actually leaving... I have heard horror stories about flies and other insects they may or may not carry small dogs off, or may or may not, carry off all your food...

    My quick trailer build.

NP friend.. and I'll agree with the home built trailer title hing. Here in Pa it cost over 200 to get one titled. I'm odd in that I have three trailers, one for hauling fire wood, gravel, dirt etc, one for hauling tools for my encore career side business, and of course our expo trailer...

    My quick trailer build.

That is a very nice build.... I too started out with a Carry-On trailer from tractor supply... I've two words of advice for you as I learned the hard way and hopefully can save you the agony of future breakdowns at the most in-opportune times. The rear spring hangers/boxed tabs will...

Yup, we carry all that and maybe a little more. We also carry a PLB just in case. We have roughly about a 425 mile range with our additional 10 ga on the trailer. I've a couple of oil leaks to buton up, then I think we're ready to go, but?

smittybilt 20 foot tow strap $10...

OK guys, it was time for me to up grade my straps. I had a pair of old 20 footers I bought a long time ago. Tractor Supply is a great place. If farmers are using their straps to extract tractors and combines, then that's plenty good enough for me. 30 ft, 20,000 lb capacity, 40 bucks.. Now...

OK, I'm officially envious, (LOL). We are in the early planning stages of an expedition like yours up through the Canadian Rockies, then through the Yukon, across the Denali highway, then north to the Arctic Circle. If it all comes together it'll happen in 2019. What would be your very best...

if you're in a Toyota then join the TLCA and hook up with our local chapter, Keystone Cruisers, we have runs every month at one of the two parks. I go a few times a year as we are mostly dedicated to our overlanding trips.

Hello Charles, About the only things we have near us are two pay for play parks, Rausch Creek and Anthracite ( AOAA ). 100 miles from me there is the Bald Eagle State Forest which is great for camping, wheeling, hiking and backpacking. Over in Central New Jersey there is the Pine Barrens, I've...

    Adjustable Control Arms?

Thank you.. fixed lowers for the specific lift height is the way to go on jeeps. If you're up 3" then get ones specifically for 3" of lift.. no other adjustments will be necessary. I used a good alignment shop once, to check my own work. There are many threads out there explaining how to align...

What are your plans for 2017?

Details, details, install new LSPV, button up some oil leaks, new tires. Then in April, MOAB, the WRT & The Needles of Canyonlands, back pack the painted desert, then onto Grand Staircase. Then head northwest, ending up in the Olympic Mountains NP. If you're near us in Pennsylvania give me a...

Overlanding with Animals (Pets or Other..?)

I love dogs. Our last dog, Maggie, a beautiful Australian Shepard, passed away 4 years ago. I still miss her. In spite of my love of dogs, ( and cats ), we will not be getting another dog until our overlanding days are behind us, in other words, probably not ever. There are too many places that...

smittybilt 20 foot tow strap $10...

Yup, Warn makes an excellent product, as does, Come-Up and Ramsey, but really, really expensive. If I was a hard core rock crawler and had plenty of dough, I'd probably get the Warn or a top of the line Superwinch. But, alas, I'm not a hardcore rock crawler, and I don't have plenty of dough...

smittybilt 20 foot tow strap $10...

That's very true, a lot of guys rag on Smittybuilt simply because they are Chinese made. Those guys do very little research, they just rag on em, and go out and spend 12 or 13 hundred for their Warns. As I stated in my first reply, " unless Smittybuilt has come a long way " as there was a...

smittybilt 20 foot tow strap $10...

Very true, cannot argue with that, as some folks have excellent experiences with SB winches. But due to a lack of tight quality control during the manufacturing process getting a hold of a good reliable one is about a 50% probability... If you got a good one, keep it, it'll probably last forever..

    Camp lantern

Thanks for all your input guys. With your help and a bit more research on my part I ordered the Goal Zero Lighthouse 400. USB recharging is a priority for us, as we use a dual battery system and a 150 watt solar panel =ing 4 USB outlets. What really got me though, was the hand crank ! I have an...

smittybilt 20 foot tow strap $10...

Many years ago I found a used 1st generation SBuillt winch on CL.. $100 was a bargain. The winch sounded like it was gonna blow apart at any moment. Surprisingly the thing worked well, for I'd say roughly 50 or so pulls until it finally gave out. 50 pulls or so by me, and probably way less than...

    Camp lantern

After our last trip and the third rebuild of our old Coleman lantern it was time to send the lamp to Coleman heaven. It required constant maintenance, not to mention having to replace the bags after every move, which, over the course of just one 5 week tour, cost around 20 bucks. I'm shopping...

    Adjustable Control Arms?

See there? Now you are even more confused than when you asked the question. Want even more confusion? Go to the jeep forums, as your question has been a raging debate since jeep introduced the coil spring suspension back in 97'. Yes, definitely start with your lower control arms. Adjustable or...

    Adjustable Control Arms?

I used to have an 04' rubicon, with an OME suspension that rasied it up about 2.5". I don't remeber the name of the company, but I did install aftermarket lower control arms. They were not adjustable, but were a bit longer than stock and worked perfectly as they were intended for my rigs...
