    General Trip Planning

I may not have the experience that many others have here, but as a backpacker, here's my input. I ALWAYS try to gather as much information as I can before heading out through the internet, friends/family who've gone. When I get to the closest town, I try to ask locals while I'm at a gas stop...

What trail condition do you LOVE the most?

Never been, but seeing the videos of Imogene pass, I SERIOUSLY Love that! Something i've done, I enjoyed Bishop. While it was mostly flat, there were some obstacles, but waking up to sunrise with the huge boulders was quite amazing.

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

Ouch, couldn't even imagine driving home like that... Yea, I may just go back to my normal roots and leave all food out of the car then.

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

Yea, Subaru's components sit extremely low. So even though I have 7" of ground clearance at the pinch welds, it's more realistically like 5" considering the diffs, and a few things. AFAIK, there are no real rock solid armor kits for our subaru's. There have been people who DIY their armor...

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

What do you mean, "strong enough for the conditions"? Is there a tell tale sign or rule of thumb when I should look into AT tires?

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

Hmm, so then how about on a 4runner? The spacers go ontop of the springs/shocks, doesn't it?

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

Don't want to be bothersome, and trust me i've tried googling around to even understand what it all means before typing it out. Just worried i'd get flamed. lol Even reading over what you've typed, I'm still very confused. Reason being, I do understand that a shock/strut lift setup does...

3rd/4th Gen 4runner or Xterra? Which would you get and why?

Thats amazing to hear, glad you've had a good experience with the Xterra. Maybe sometime in the future i'll be able to afford another rig and make it a xterra :)

3rd/4th Gen 4runner or Xterra? Which would you get and why?

I hope I don't run into any issues! But as the nature of the game is, something is bound to happen. haha Thank you very much! :)

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

When should I begin to consider AT tires? Sorry for being a complete idiot/noob about this.. But lets say we get a shock/strut combo that is a 3" lift from stock height. Wouldn't it ultimately be the same as putting a 3" spacer kit on? In my mind it does.. Hmm, good to know..

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

I'm confused. I was under the impression that body spacers do give me a bit more clearance.. and I did gain clearance after the install.. What do you mean? After you said that, glad I didn't go.... How bad is the water crossing there? Is a snorkel a must?

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

Hmmm, good to know! BTW, dumb question, are AT tires necessary to be off-roading? You do have a point. I think this applies to any rig though realistically, to some degree. That's very good to know. Maybe next time i'm able to join the adventure, I'll go ahead and do that. Honestly, you are...

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

I think you do have a point. But how can you test what your limitations are? I mean obviously, don't go over a huge bolder when you've only got 6" of ground clearance, but what about something that may look possible to do... How do you know when and where you've crossed that line? Yea, I...

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

You have a point. I know there will always be smells/traces, but I just wondered what you guys did since it seems like there really isn't any minimization of risks if you left it in the fridge, from my point of view. Just an interesting thought that passed my mind when seeing some builds

3rd/4th Gen 4runner or Xterra? Which would you get and why?

Yea, I figure there wouldn't be much info on this simply because of the nature of the job.. That said, I was thinking about just buying a FSM or something similar to get an idea.

3rd/4th Gen 4runner or Xterra? Which would you get and why?

Welp... I ended up purchasing a 07 v6 limited 4wd that I just couldn't pass up on. Pumped to start modding it. LOL

What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

Hello all, To start this off: I own a 2012 Impreza 2.0i and i've lifted it with 1" spacers. I opted to go with spacers since I don't want to shell out $400+ on springs, and have to spend more money on top to accommodate the lift, adjusting for camber, etc. My last trip to a dirt trail, I...

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

Hmm, good to know. I think that definitely helps make a difference, but it still makes me wonder since I doubt these storage systems are 100% sealed. Maybe it's just me over thinking it, but just a genuine question. Seal food in the cooler, but are these items/storage systems 100% sealed? I...
