Summer Heat Camping? Yes or No?

yeah, but by then you were at 6-7000 feet. Drive 2.5 hrs west and camp. Bottom line; Summer camping is doable, IF, you can cool down either naturally or artificially.

    TIRES

I had an 88" Land Rover, when I bought it it had Firestone Destination AT's on it. It really looks like a street tyre(5.5" x 16 rims). While I owned the Rover I took it through mud in the Coastal Mtns and a couple trips to the Nevada Desert and Death Valley. Never had an issue with flats or...

US West Hello everyone. My wife and I went to Afton Canyon campground last week and we must say that it sucked! (clickbait)

I went and camped at Afton, 13 Feb, 2020, no bugs! Wind but no bugs. Your bites sound like what horse flies do to me. I've been bit a few times up in the Black Rock Desert, Those things as huge as they are can land and you don't know it until they bite ya. I found either a tennis racket for...

    Grand Canyon Advice

I always tell folks to go to Meteor Crater if they can, it will impress the hell out of 10-8yo! Speaking of them what are they interested in? Do they know anything about Mountain Men or Pioneers, geology of the West? I would then plan my trip around seeing that kind of stuff. Plenty of it out...

Here is the data I was referring to; You can find more. Richard, I will agree it is/was the incidents where the bear was "too" close that were failures of both options.

    Overlanding/Camping Firearm preference

Interesting topic, recent studies find that firearms are around 80% effective at stopping bear attacks and bear spray 99% effective. Mainly due to the quickness the spray can be accessed and deployed effectively.

Is badland recovery gear from Harbor Freight any good?

You do 150+ winch pulls in 2 years?! On Youtube there are several off road recovery businesses posting recovery videos. For the last couple of years they have been using Badlands winches with no published failures with perhaps a dozen winches on 5-6 rigs. Though granted most recoveries are done...

Real word opinions of 270 degree awnigs

I have a Rhino Rack Batwing 270. As far as shade I think it is great with maybe the low sun angle, however you can drop the legs some to get an incline. My biggest issue is how frelling flimsy the hinges are! I had 2 break when first opening it in the desert and it wasn't even windy. I have made...

Any Tips, Tricks or Cautions for Vertically Mounting ROAM/Pelican/etc. Cases?

I have a motorcycle with 2 Pelican 1550's bolted to a frame. Large washers. They have been on there since 2008 and I have loaded them up and taken several tours and used them for commuting and grocery shopping(each case can hold 2 full bags). If the recovery gear is soft, ropes and straps and...

Choose my engine - Disco 1

Personally I lean towards pre-computer gear, something I can fix in the boonies without needing a 'puter. Land Rover 300TDI matched to the aforementioned R380. I'd say 200TDI but they don't make new heads for them. So supply is limited.

Are Canvas Tents Suitable for Overlanding?

I have to add that the one drawback for my OZ tent is packed size and weight. The length, 80" = 6'.6"= 2032mm means you probably are going to keep it outside the vehicle. If you do like I do it is up on the roof rack and my Land Rover is kinda tall at 82"= 6'.8" = 2082.8mm to the rack. So you...
