I made a couple of phone calls this morning to some ranger stations to verify some information.
As suspected, the fs roads around Wardensville are seasonally closed until April 3. :(
Canaan Loop Rd and FS 18 are open.
So here’s some thoughts to ponder, most certainly not trying to dictate the...
I've only been through the area once, but that sounds like that still make me the "expert" lol
You know the definition of expert, right? Ex is a has-been and a spert is a drip of fluid under force.
I don't believe Canaan Loop is seasonally closed like many of the other roads.
That being said, I did hear that it was closed last year because of so many people getting stuck in the snow.
I find the Forest Service interactive map a great tool for planning...
There's some nice spots on Squirrel Gap Rd, just west of Wardensville, but I think the fs road is closed until 4/1, same with Paddys/ Vances Cove, the coordinates you gave. :(
I ran Union Springs to Flagpole back n Nov and a couple of the ledges were rutted out pretty bad.
I met a guy about a year and a half ago who lives in Blacksburg and has run Potts numerous times. I asked if a stock JKU Rubicon could make it. He paused and said he wouldn't recommend it. I then asked about a CJ7 w/ 33" tires and lockers and he said that should do fine.
Myself and a friend...
I'm interested.
Watching the thread..
There's a nice campsite on fs18 (from Thomas to Olson fire tower) that will accommodate several vehicles, but it's popular, so it's frequently claimed when I go past.
This was before the days of powder coat, when I was in the Coast Guard and we had to repaint the handrails on the ship, we would strip off the old paint by wrapping the handrail with a length of chain, then pulling it back and forth. Worked pretty well on paint. Don't know how effective it...
I did a little google-foo and came up with these websites;

https://www.outdooren.com/best-places-to-watch-the-sunrise-in-maryland/
Hope that gives you some viable options!
It’s going to be difficult to compete with Red Rocks in Reisterstown, being in the middle heavy urban sprawl.
I’m trying to think of somewhere, but not having any success at the moment. I’ll post again if I have somewhere to suggest.
Maybe Liberty reservoir, out rt 26 towards Eldersburg. It’s...
I came across this website a few months ago;

I don't remember if it was from watching Justin King and Colorado 4x4 or somewhere else... But I thought it would be prudent to bookmark for later.
What part of the state do you have in mind?
I live in the eastern panhandle. Like probably 70%+ of the population, travel into MD/ Northern VA/ DC for work.
Finding employment should not be a problem, at least in my area.
Might want to check out the southern end of the Mid Atlantic BDR.
There’s also a route around the NR Gorge area called Tour De Coalfields. An interwebs search should get you a link to the route. Haven’t done it yet, but it’s on my “want to do list”.
It’s also very popular. Camped there a few weeks ago. Arrived early on a Fri evening, found one of the last spots available. By early Sunday afternoon, 85% of the campsites were vacated.
Despite the popularity, one of our favorite places to go because of the beauty of the area.
