    Rodents vs. Wiring

A friend of mine is constantly battling that issue with mice. He uses moth balls, which does help.

Overlanding lessons learned the hard way

We had a saying among my friends a number of years ago when I did a lot of off roading; “Rocks good, mud bad, water is for drinking and boats.” Mud is liquid sandpaper that gets into everything. I’ve had to replace several throwout bearings on my CJ because of mud, fun as it is. Know several...

Paddler's Safety & Cold Water Survival

lol. Thanks. The two big things I see every summer is (1) Wallyworld sit-on kayaks are not intended for dynamic water, especially class II and III rapids or higher, (2) Pool floats and tubes are not meant for rivers, especially if there’s rapids. Rocks eat those things and will make you swim.

Paddler's Safety & Cold Water Survival

I’m on my county’s Swift Water Rescue team, so I’m probably tuned in more to these issues than those that aren’t avid water recreationists. I cringe at some of the water crossings I see in “overlanding” videos.

Paddler's Safety & Cold Water Survival

Like this? :) This is one of many videos they have done. Some, like this one are a few minutes long to a few that are close to an hour...

Paddler's Safety & Cold Water Survival

The “Cold water boot camp” videos on ewetube have pretty good info too, especially for non paddlers.

    Homemade Jerry Can Mounts

Nice work! I did similar on my CJ7. Wrapped some of the framing with jacketing from old firehose to hopefully minimize rattle and wear chafing.

    US East Flagpole Knob Clean-up

Curious, are you planning on doing some clean up on some of the roads going in, or primarily just on Flagpole? I'm seeing if I can get the stars to align to join in on this. I'm in Harpers Ferry, so I'd meet up with you either along the way, depending on your route of travel or in Harrisonburg.

    trails in virginia

I don't, but it's easy enough to find. It's on the outskirts of Blackwater State Park in Davis, WV. The forest road is groomed gravel, the section that can be a little more technical actually runs across land owned by a lumber company and is unmaintained. There's some good hiking with awesome...

Well, I'm out for this one. Some other things have come up for that timeframe that require priority.

    Dispersed Camping

To largely echo what the previous replies have been; there is no simple answer. I'm on part of this learning curve myself. I think having and knowing resources available is part of the battle. I've accumulated a sizable folder of bookmarks for trip planning. Don't know if you have these...

    Inexpensive drones?

I've read that the mini's gps system won't let it fly in areas that one is not supposed to fly a drone anyway. I could see this being frustrating if one is on the edge of a national park. Can any of you that have one give some feedback on this? I almost bought one at Costco back in November...

    Cancelled Flagpole Knob/ PMR/ MABDR 3

Dusther, are you driving from NJ to Sweitzer Thursday morning, or camping Wed night in the area? Where are you planning on picking up the MABDR? Will you be running it north or south? From what I've seen of the map of MABDR, the route passes west of Flagpole on Rt 33. Doing Peters Mill...

    Gmrs or ham

Hamstudy also has listings of clubs doing testing. It's also a fantastic study aid. It helped me tremendously when I was studying. https://hamstudy.org/sessions

HAM Radio with MARS/CAP Mod vs. 2 Radios in Rig (GMRS + HAM)

All legalities aside, modding your new radio will void the warranty. Whatever that may be worth.

    Water & Winter Camping

Add alcohol. Not sure what the ratio of vodka or bourbon would be for various temperature ranges...
