    Hi-Lift Vs. Floor Jack

Something ran into a long time ago. Not a recovery situation, but a tire change issue on a Chevy Suburban. Was out east of Death Valley and got a flat tire, back right. In attempting to change the tire, discovered that with a flat our 6 ton bottle jack was too tall to fit underneath. Grabbed the...

The start of the rear JKU storage system.

I'm like you in thinking something like this could be beneficial in my Jeep WK. As for the MDF vs plywood, if you glue the joints of MDF AND use screws, the joints can be pretty strong. However, one of the biggest weaknesses is water/moisture exposure on the MDF. It can swell up pretty badly...

    Changing Rims?

Yikes! Where you see a trail, I see boulders! That's awesome! But not the kind of thing for me...I just don't have that kind of experience at this time. Realistically, for a point of reference, the most extreme I'd likely ever go is what is shown in this Overland Bound video...hope you don't...

    Changing Rims?

Question for y'all: I have a Jeep WK that has the factory aluminum 17" rims. In the future, a year or so when it's time to replace the tires, I was thinking of changing my tires to 32" or 33" and lifting it up 1.5" to 2". Nothing too outrageous. At any rate, I had heard that maybe for off-road...

Someone asked me why I like 4x4's.

For me it's not so much the 4x4 as it is getting out into the middle of nowhere! 4x4s just help you do that.

What was your first vehicle you took exploring.

This isn't a picture of the actual one I had, but I went exploring in one of these when I was about 5 years old! Does this count?

How Many States/Countries Have You Been Too?

Cool topic! I've only been to a few states, but I have to say that as far as what I would consider good exploration, it's really just my home state of California. But, here's my map, anyway....

    Tembo Tusk or conventional stove?

Yep, I remember one time asking what to do with it and was told to just put in garbage. I couldn't believe it. Nowadays, though, I don't use them.

    Tembo Tusk or conventional stove?

I'll be darned: And here's a YT video on it: In checking this out, I came across several articles, all highly stressing the dangers of doing this. If you do this, be safe about it!

    Camp Lanterns

Yep, but it seems all Coleman gas lanterns were dual fuel. Back in 1990, was on a trip, had a devil of a time finding white gas. When stopped for gas for car, asked attendant where I could find white gas for lanterns and stove. He said just use unleaded gas. Tried it and haven't used white gas...

How to Start a Fire - Collected Wisdom

I've seen that video, works pretty well. Seems more like the logs kind of slide more than roll, though. It's a clever idea.

    Campground or Boondock?

Boondocks or campsites? Yes to both! If I'm going to an area I am not familiar with, campsite and recon the area for future visits. And sometimes I go to campsites that are indeed in the boondocks, too. This one place I go to I stayed at an unimproved campground for 14 days and saw only four...

    Expedition Overland Teaser Trailer

An excellent series! Great video work, narration, everything just very well done! I came across their Alaska series a few weeks back. It was late at night when I saw the first one. Next thing I knew, it was like 3 am...I just had to watched them one after the other, kind of addicting!

    Camp stoves

I've got two different Coleman stoves. A little two burner that is newer for short 1 or 2 people trips and a Coleman 3-burner my parents bought back in 1956 when cooking for more people or elaborate meals. Both work great. The thing I especially like is they use same fuel as my car so that...

Snow - To Chain Or Not To Chain

You know, I think I saw something similar in a brief search when I first heard that. The article I saw cited Thule stuff, but there might be a bias there as, not positive, I believe Thule and Yakima load bars max out at 165#. Is that due to a law or trying to keep costs down or to limit...
