    Ignition Key Modification

Hi, all! I'm not certain where to put this question, so if it needs to be moved, let me know. I have an '06 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In my previous Jeep (ZJ) the key location for the ignition was on the steering column. This WK has the key location on the dash, low. As a result of this combined...

    Legal Weapons and Overlanding

Ok, was curious as it sounds you've used 1911's and others. Amazing though that a 105 year old design is still to this day at least in the mix, if not the top dog, for consumers to consider.

    Legal Weapons and Overlanding

Just a quick question, what's the tech and design differences that steer you away from 1911s? I've read a lot of today's stuff in semi-auto pistols was derived from the 1911 and some from the Walther P38 (1930's). Is it just better machining or something? Obviously, polymers have come a long...

    Roof Rack Bracket Help

Factory rail load rating is 150. That's another reason for my wanting to remove them and connect directly to the roof attachment points. Using roof attach points allows for a 420 pound max load, probably static load. I'm looking to have load range in 200-250 pounds on the roof rack.

    Roof Rack Bracket Help

Hey, all! I need some assistance to either find something I can't or maybe make something custom for mounting my cargo rack to the top of my car. I have a 2006 Jeep GC with the factory installed rack. It looks like: Sadly, the design of the rack only allows cross members to be spaced no...

OB Approved This is for everyone, OVERLANDING Safety in numbers!

Some people pointed out an interesting point: Did he push on so as to not look bad in front of the other drivers. Makes sense, "Ah, those kids don't know what they're doing blah blah blah." Something else could be, "Ah, those kids in a Jeep...I'll show them what an FJ can do!" And this...

OB Approved This is for everyone, OVERLANDING Safety in numbers!

You're absolutely right! I just got back from a quick weekend trip. I'm a "newbie" when it comes to driving 4WD roads, but I'd say an advanced over lander. I came across a 4WD road/trail and thought I'd try it. About 150 yards up a 1.6 mile trail I said to myself that's far enough. Turned around...

    OB Approved Camping with Firearms

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I was referring to snake shot cartridges for firearms. Kind of like having shotgun ammunition for a hand gun. Reason I asked is many times I go hiking/fishing in rattlesnake country and I wondered if snake shot is effective should you stumble across a poisonous snake...

    OB Approved Camping with Firearms

Kind of a neat discussion. We have covered a lot pertaining to the two-legged predator - no, not big foots! - and bears. One other thing to carry for in back country that we haven't covered is use of snake shot for, well, snakes! Any input in use of snake shot from anybody?

    OB Approved Camping with Firearms

Question for you: what is "bear spray?" How does it differ from "pepper spray?" Reason I ask is article you cite above as an authoritative source on use of firearms vs pepper spray states bear spray is pepper spray in big cans.

    Jerry Cans -- Wavian

Good afternoon, all! I have a probably stupid question re: Jerry cans. While I like the concept of the RotoPax, they won't work in my particular situation. As such, I came across these 2.5 gallon cans from Wavian: However, living in California, are they, 1) Legal, CARB approved? 2) As this is...

That sounds like an interesting trip! How's the trail? Technical? Easy? Moderate?

    Death Valley trip

That looks great! I haven't been to Death Valley since about 1984! Ouch! I'm old... I'm surprised taking these trails is allowed. I figured once DV went from National Monument to National Park they'd restrict this kind of activity. Glad to see its still doable.

No, you don't need all that, this is just what I have.. I don't know what experience you have for astro photography, but you could just start off with a camera, somewhat wide-angle lens, like a 50mn on a full frame, and tripod. Can make some extraordinary time lapse videos or star trail shots...

I have my Canon 6D connected to my little 80mm telescope riding on an Orion Atlas Pro EQ/AZ. It's pretty beefy, weighing around 30 pounds. I use a guiding system as well connected to a cheap little net-book type thing (I'm a Mac user, so I don't know all that much about Windows computers too...
