NPS in Utah will start citing AWD vehicles on 4WD roads…better know difference

We've got the same thing in some places in Australia except the decider seems to be whether you have a low range transfer case. Nobody seems to recognize that Cruisers and Range Rovers are AWD (distribute the drive over all wheels), whilst my VW is part-time 4WD as it is FWD or FWD+RWD (like an...

    Where's your Awning?

I have mine on the passenger side (I'm in Australia so that is the left). A lot of the time, when I do HAM radio fieldwork I wish it was on the other side so I could just pull off the road and have the open side towards the trail.

Does Anyone Carry an OzTent with them? If So, How?

The Tagalong was such a useful product. Sadly now discontinued. When I travel I have been putting the RV3 on the roof rack. I no longer have the space as I set up for full-time (long distance, international) overlanding.

    Use of AI in Overlanding

Chat GPT is not so great for trip planning. The training data is very diverse and as a result, does not get updated frequently. So that campsite that may have been there in 2021, might not be now.

Anderson Sb50 Connectors under water? Or what 50 amp connectors for 6 gauge wire under water?

Normally not a problem. Water is a terrible conductor and at 12v DC it isn't going to have any effect on an Anderson connector. Getting the contacts wet may lead to corrosion. Putting grease or Vaseline on the contacts before plugging them together will solve that. Also, mount the plugs high up...

Goal: simple day to day life, small(ish), offroad capable – a Jeep Gladiator build

A lighter vehicle is more appealing to me. In my opinion, Landcruisers are too heavy and also too heavy on the pocket. I also need back passenger seats, so without the seat delete, I'm carrying a whole lot less.

Goal: simple day to day life, small(ish), offroad capable – a Jeep Gladiator build

Great build. I was considering a Gladiator for my next vehicle and would install a canopy of this style if I go ahead. Interesting, that this is considered a "small" vehicle in the US, but here in Australia they are considered a large vehicle.

    Vehicle shipping Singapore to Australia

You will need a Carnet to be allowed into Australia with a vehicle as new as yours. You will need to apply for a vehicle importation permit, even for a temporary import, before you ship. Before shipping clean everything, it must be as clean as a new vehicle. Remove any covers and clean under...

    Dehydrated vs freeze drying foods

I can give you a few tips: 1. When it comes to meat, especially chicken, factory canned dries and rehydrates better than fresh. 2. If you have ground beef recipes, e.g. spaghetti sauce or tacos, make the mix with the flavoring and then dehydrate. If you substitute 30%-50% hydrated Textured...

    Spare Tire

One of the reasons I include the spare (in my case 2 spares) in tyre rotation. Alternatively when I replace tyres, it is the least worn of the old set. Of course, it must be the same size and tread pattern.

    Wiring... Redarc & Anderson plugs

When you use a DCDC charger, voltage drops are not as relevant as the charger will charge the secondary battery at the required voltage even if the input from the main battery and alternator drops to as low as 9 volts. That is what the DCDC charger does. The charger needs be as close as...

    Aux battery

You are best to go with an Aggregated Glass Mat (AGM) battery. They are designed to work in the heat of an engine bay and can cope with cold without having heating elements (as required for lithium batteries). AGM batteries cannot be fully discharged without shortening their lifespan so if you...
