General Observations about the influx of people to the outdoor world

Now there's this article in the WSJ that covers all of the above. And I'm heading for Canyonlands and Arches among other places next week... https://www.wsj.com/articles/national-parks-are-overcrowded-and-closing-their-gates-11623582002?mod=e2fb&fbclid=IwAR3MRN9YW87A6j9VjGybW7WHrN-1FIH9qOBIX6eqio

Our, And Your, Opinions On Some Popular Overlanding Gear

Overall I liked the video. I think the whole point is find out what you like and what works for you and it's all just opinion from there. The key take-a-ways are you don't need everything in the catalog, remember how important weight and weight placement is and just go out and do it. I too am...

Overlanding Shoes (Is there such a thing :-) )

These too along with my Merrell World Ledgend Moc are my daily wear shoes at work. Otherwise I generally wear my Merrell Sandals I don't know the model name, but they are A- Very comfortable, B have a great tread for hiking. But I don't see them on the Merrell site any more so once they're...

Best place to camp in Colorado

I try to avoid privately owned campgrounds as much as possible. I hate KOA/Good Sams. As a tent camper all you hear all night is loud people, loud generators and they cram you in like sardines. Like you mentioned too often they are too close to a highway where you hear road noises all night...

General Observations about the influx of people to the outdoor world

I don't care what people drive I see plenty of douschebaggery from sxs, big diesels, Jeepers, Tacos... you name it although if I were to pick the worst it would be the big diesel guys. My 3 biggest complaints are : Trash/ litter Noise Trail/land destruction

    Camp Photos!

Yes it was. This was my first time using camping hammocks and I enjoyed them much more than I anticipated. And my son was in heaven. I only wish I either had a canopy or some other way to protect against bugs. I would have loved to sleep in them.

General Observations about the influx of people to the outdoor world

There's no doubt that the interest in outdoor activities including overlanding, camping, hiking has seen a dramatic uptick in recent years. Also, we've seen an uptick in trails, campgrounds and other facilities closing because of poor behavior of the general public abusing these facilities ...

Lost 5 more formerly awesome camping spots in Colorado...

My thought/hope is that yes all sorts of outdoor activities got a huge boost by the pandemic. But may of those people will not continue now that things are returning to normal. Between it just not being for them not having all their internet/tv available and other creature comforts they will go...

What kind of overlanding do you do?

In the past mainly local (8ish hour range) weekend trips. Mainly on rural or fairly well maintained forest service roads. Nothing crazy or technical. This summer I'm driving from NC to the southwest and am stoked. But since my plan doesn't involve anything really requiring my truck, I'm...

Do you really need heated seats and remote start?

My thoughts have evolved in terms of whats on the Needed list vs the nice to have list. Maybe it's getting older, maybe it's that I'm more economically stable. 5- 10 years ago I would have said no to most of the niceties. But now I'm more willing to have those things. I'm less into the roughing...

    Overland Expo East 2021

Maybe this will be the year. I intended to go to what ended up being the mud fest in Ashville, but life got in the way.
