Got some goodies for the truck... finding non uniball uppers for this truck was actually kind of hard, but I don't want to deal with the maintenance from uniballs.
Very cool! I'm building a list of parts for ours still... I suspect we'll be in the collecting parts phase for a while, but I have some of the harness stuff on the way, so I can get that going at least.
Also got the next round of suspension goodies and I heard back from bed at filthy...
Yeah, i'm just not going to comment on this anymore.
OP, If you want to drop me a PM I'm more than willing to go through suspension stuff on these trucks with ya, there's a lot that can be done with em to make them ride and drive awesome.
That's fantastic! it's awesome to hear that org is sort of taking shape. Most of the clubs around the SF Bay are tech focused so it's really cool to hear of a more outside focused group!!
I think your prob a step ahead on the VE front, I haven't even gotten to that level of research yet.
Anyone else a VE with any of their clubs? I've been pretty out of the loop for in-person ham stuff for a while now.... but I've been hearing ideas kicked around in some jeep and offroad focused groups about doing some 4x4 specific club stuff and maybe even helping out with doing some test...
Pretty much this. My jeep has fox 2.0's and they're perfect in that, our GMC has 5100's right now and they're a tad harsh, but ours is a reg cab, short bed 2wd GMC sierra. Its the smallest and lightest of the GMT800 trucks, but towing or with some gear (or two people and gear) its perfect...
I'd still stick with the 5100's.
how many miles are on your truck? hows the rest of the suspension look wear wise? Almost every moving part in the front suspension of our '03 sierra was falling apart at 160k when we got it, so i'm willing to bet part of your ride issues are from other wear in...
The truck is starting to look pretty dialed! how's it dealing with the additional weight? I've been trying to talk my partner into looking at a Raptor when it comes time to get her something new and how well it deals with the shell was a question she brought up...
I don't normally go for any of the meat substitute stuff as I prefer to stick with more cooked veggie centric things, but a buddy introduced me to some of the newer things like beyond meat... and well some of those make for some pretty tasty trail tacos, just sayin. also works for some killer...
Take a look at the air pressure you're running. Lowering the air pressure down to 25 or even 30 psi will make a big difference in ride quality on basic dirt roads, suspension can help but its of a pain getting a good setup that in't just basic shocks/torsion bar crank for the GMT800 trucks.
I'd...
Huh, thats pretty interesting. I can totally understand why they do it in that configuration though given the extra power drain from all the crap they stuff in those cars. Is your truck still on the OEM partially lowered suspension?
Also had to do the clutch in my Jeep this last weekend. The disk was misaligned a tiiiiiiinnnyyyyyyy bit so the input shaft wobbled a bunch and caused a bit of a leak along the shaft. Post clutch install it drives a ton better isn't leaking. wooohooo!
also I found some schematics for the factory dual battery setup in the GMT800 trucks, so I'm going to start collecting parts for that here soon.
just sticking this schematic up here so I don't loose it...
also... we got these for the truck. so lots of welding practice is going to happen before these go on. still gotta get the lowers figured out for this thing. Apparently finding off-road coilovers for a 1" wide bearing spacing is harder than I thought...
