US West MALAKOFF DIGGINS / HENESS PASS TRIP

I have zero details so we're planning for dispersed camping for all things regarding meals, water, trash, hygiene stuff, etc. I love just winging it for trips, but I totally understand how it doesn't work for some folks. For us, generally this entails at least 5gal of water, propane stove...

    Help me spend $1100!

Honestly they work fine. We have them in the back of our truck and they do ok on that. I don't like em for the front however, but that problem is getting fixed this weekend. Let us know how they end up working for you! Also sounds like getting the AC fixed was a good call, haha.

    Help me spend $1100!

This is a great point.... you have a jeep so you'll want to get to know it (and have lots of 13mm sockets/wrenches...). One of my best tool purchases in the past year was a 1/2" drive DeWalt cordless impact driver. So far that has become a mainstay in my tools, it get used ALL the time and...

    JEEP CHECK IN

I'll play! My 2012 JKU, 0 options from the factory. Over the years its gotten: 2.5" teraflex lift, tire carrier and crappy 9550 shocks, rockhard rails and harness bar, my ancient milemarker winch on a plate up front, bedlined tub, 2m radio, 35's, trutrac, 6sp, 4.56 gears, rubicon express...

Not one... BUT TWO trucks! '12 JKU and '03 GMC Sierra...

The coilover springs finally came in! So aided by a jar of anti-seize and some spring compressors I got the coilovers put together. Also picked up the arbor shims for the top shock mount to close up the gap. I got roped into supporting some crane lifts at work on my day off tomorrow so I won't...

Why are there so few Silverado overland rigs?

The big thing I think is a generally weak front end on them, they are very much geared towards comfort and road manners vs heavy off road use. Heck... the new base model 4x4 chevy half ton trucks don't even have low range anymore unless you can find one with the offroad package. in terms of my...

    Chevy Silverado - Bumper Options

Bumpers for fullsize trucks is kind of tricky. We're looking at stuff for our Sierra and well, not many options out there.. There are more for the newer body styles at least. We'll most likely have to fab something...

Anyone have a BedSlide or similar?

We have one in our Sierra. Its fantastic as we have a hard cap on the bed and often its the only way we can get to stuff way in the back.

    Help me spend $1100!

This! I remember him from NAXJA and he's a solid source of advice. That said, bilstien shocks, some basic recovery gear like shackles, strap, recovery points and an air compressor to air back up. if you don't have sway bar discos I'd look into those too. Wouldn't worry about the antirock sway...

How critical is it to have a 4WD vehicle

Our 2WD truck is turning into quite the truck over time and as we're getting out in it more. It does a lot of stuff really really well and its able to get a suprising amount of paces. Air pressure and knowing how to drive a higher clearance vehicle helps a lot. Having a locker or LSD in the rear...

Good list Justin, lots of good points there! Especially about dust, our truck bed is sort of sealed and honestly it gets less dust inside than the back of my jeep so I have dust seals on everything and second and third layers. damn stuff gets everywhere.

Not one... BUT TWO trucks! '12 JKU and '03 GMC Sierra...

Yep, this is a 16 year old truck, lots of stuff like that needs attention after all these years. Also had to swap out the trans mount and a rear bump stop as they both were turning to dust...

    2018 GMC Canyon MTB/Overland/Adventure Rig

Nice! Looks good, I'm still not sold on the cowl lights, too much glare imo. I totally with ya on chase lights, I'm pretty constantly worried about having a pre-runner or UTV running me down in the desert so i tend to run mine too.

US West MALAKOFF DIGGINS / HENESS PASS TRIP

This is a pretty good post for some of our newer members! Generally for most off road/dirt road adventures I suggest for vehicle requirements and basic gear: Recovery points front and rear. Functional full size spare and a way to change it. Plus knowledge of how to change said tire. Tow strap...
