My square drop cost less than the quad, which I'm not the least bit interested in. In fact, it cost considerably less than $10K. But, all this BS is why Baskin-Robbins has 39 flavors.
There's nothing wrong with homemade PVC versions. Lots of people make them, use them successfully and save money. The WaterPorts are plastic too. I've used both.
If you are referring to my shot of the cypress trees, yes, it was taken last week at Caddo Lake in Texas and the fog on the water was about a foot thick that morning.
I'll have to ask my wife who took the shot. But, she's off on another adventure. She was closer than you might think. The lens may have been 200mm Nikor.
I may be contrarian since most small trailers have a built-in galley of some sort. I deliberately avoided having a galley because I don't want food/cooking smells around the trailer when we camp in bear country. I also don't like fixed solar panels because I want to park/camp in the shade...
Based on your description of how you'll use the rig I can't imagine that a standard ball hitch won't work. And, there are advantages in cost, ease of hookup, etc.
We love being able to set up a base camp and then freeing the vehicle to explore. With awnings and ARB rooms under each we have up to 162 sq. ft. to live in.
