I was 'fortunate' enough to get a very gently used Nikon D5300 from a buddy of mine. He grew tired of hauling it around and only shooting in auto mode. However, now my old D50 lenses don't have functioning auto-focus with the new body... Looks like I will have to pick out a couple of lenses...
Sounds like an excellent time of getting away with your girl. Enjoy it - once they get busy with other stuff time becomes a valuable commodity. It's great that she chose such a scenic off-road destination, too.
If you want to have future trips and extended marital harmony, sometimes that *somebody* needs to be heeded. Hopefully her enjoyment of the travel will increase to match yours. Then we'll be constantly following your journeys!
Hang in there. Just knowing there is an end in sight is sometimes enough to get you through. Not everyone has that hope. Keep plugging away!

Being 'ready to go' instead of 'throwing stuff together at the last minute' is so helpful in reducing the stress levels for all involved. Fewer things are forgotten and you tend not to overpack those 'just in case' items.
