Love that bumper. I was looking at one of those before I sold my DII. We have similar tastes in wheel colour, too. Nice job on the drawer system and tailgate, too.
Here's what my wheels looked like. We loved the Disco. Loads of space, good power, great driving position...
Good looking rig. Simple, functional modifications that make it work better. Nice.
Enough building and modifying, time to get out and enjoy what your efforts created!
That's the vehicle I want to start (likely the Lexus version, as the LC wasn't available in Canada) with when I get back from our time away in Africa. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it and where it takes you.
Really classy looking drawer system, too. Nice score for $150!!
The author has lots of experience, but that still doesn't make what he says the gospel truth. There is room for discussion on all points as they relate to your vehicle, destination, intended use and driving style.
I disagree with the '... then you bought the wrong vehicle...' attitude. Not...
My wife and I are going to be taking our three boys on a wee bit of an adventure. We're going to volunteer at a small mission hospital in Togo, West Africa for a 6 month stint. We're leaving on April 15th.
The hospital is the 2nd busiest in the country, performing around 600 baby deliveries...
It's cool, but I'm not sure of it's purpose. Sure seems like a lot of work when you can simply get a hammock with a bug screen and fly - using only two (much lighter) straps. Maybe that's just me being lazy about setting stuff up, however...
But to be useful for most military applications they need a vehicle to be able to do more. Don't get me wrong, I love my 4-door Rubicon. It's just not designed for military life.
@jz8ti - you're on SONTT, too - no? The mini truck looks familiar.
Nice to see more Canadians invading the forum. Eventually we'll bump into one another.
I love the idea, but I'll be heading out of the country for a long while in mid-April. I will be busily preparing for the trip so I doubt I could take a weekend away. Drummond is a cool area, fairly flat but with lots of trails around the island.
I would think a diesel Suburban / Expedition would be more in line with what the military could use as a general purpose vehicle. Combine towing ability, passenger space, solid construction with the ability to handle the weight of armour, accessories, passengers, configurations, etc. compared...
Time on the trail is taken up with three boys under 12 years old, trying to take some pictures or trying to get a fishing line wet. 'Down time' is busier than driving time!
