    2016 GMC Canyon trail build

Love to see the twins getting out there!

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

I'm actually glad I went with the midsized but mostly for the city driving/less stress about parking. 1006 lbs payload from the factory though... it's all compromises!

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

I realized I never really followed up with how I liked the truck, and I hate finding threads about issues I'm having only to have no conclusions or just 'got it working, thanks!'. Here are my feelings about this truck after 2 (short) trips and (almost) 3 months of ownership. I'm also going to...

    HUMAN FECES

When I was backcountry camping in Zion, certain areas required using developed sites. Found human shart complete with toilet paper by a tree. Zion specifically tells you to pack it out and even provides bags... some people.

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

I think it's pretty effing cool, and you have ~instant setup. I debated long and hard on the long bed crew cab fullsize but ultimately decided not to for reasons I get into in my previous thread. I think it makes a bit less sense in a short bed midsize (I'm 6'3"). The username checks out...

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

I'm not opposed to expensive for fast setup and durability. I'll add it to my spreadsheet! I've also read some pretty mixed things about GFC's durability...

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

Well I'm more the CERN type than the LANL type if you catch my drift. If you check out my buying thread, you'll see why I didn't go full size long bed. If I had gone that route, I'd absolutely go with the cap. I'm so tall that I'd need the long bed full size which was super limiting in my...

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

Wow that's embarrassing! I tried to subtract 88 from 100 and got 22  and I have a PhD in nuclear physics. That, then, checks out exactly with colloquial forum evidence.

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

So I'm kind of narrowing in on the Roofnest (Falcon or Sparrow probs). Still having difficulty finding how much this affects mileage (TheDrive claims they got hit 3 MPG off a 25 MPG vehicle, which is like 22% which seems kind of high to me) or wind noise, but it seems to very between 20% and 0%...

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

Thanks! I'm really excited to get out there! I should add, I'm 6'3", so preeeetty limited even with a fullsize (if you look at my car buying thread, you'll see a lot of frustration about the lack of long bed offroad trims esp for full size trucks). I did a quick google on 'off road camper...

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

Let me put it this way: Heavily leaning towards 1. If I could get the Superlight next month I probably wouldn't have even posted this thread. But since I can't, I started looking at all my options and ended up here. I more or less ruled out 3. during my midsized search but after laying in the...

Sleeping: hardshell + full rack vs softshell + mid rack vs topper + tailgate tent

After my infamous thread here I ended up buying a Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison CCSB. While I was shopping vehicles, I did some basic looking into how I'd build it out just to make sure I could do more or less what I wanted. The three main ideas I had were as follows (+) pro (-) con: 1. Hardshell...

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

Thanks everyone, I love it! I'm going to start a build thread in a few days! Almost certainly the AEV Low Tube. I don't really like the one silver bit on the bumper on an otherwise totally black truck! Then probably lights and a bed rack. Hoping to go on my first trip in early April, maybe to...

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

Well, long story short: I want to thank everybody for their help in this thread, I really feel like I had a good list of vehicles and there were a lot of good options. For me, the midsize was a must for city driving and this one just drove the best one the roads and will require minimal...

    2021 Adventure Colorado

About to purchase a ZR2 Bison myself! What rack did you go with?

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

Yes. Test drove the Ranger and F-150 today. As expected they only had the 4x4 Ranger which they legit tried to pass off as the FX4. I didn't bother mentioning it the lack of FX4 decal and rear diff lock because I wasn't going to buy from them anyway. Good enough for me to realize I was not...

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

I believe there is some confusion between the AEV Bison and the Chevy Bison. AEV Bison is where they get the Bison or ZR2 from Chevy and add the dust snorkel, different wheels, more lift for 33s, etc. I do think AEV helped Chevy tool the Chevy Bison parts.

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

Don't get me wrong the R1T looks awesome but I don't want to be the beta testers on a first gen all electric adventure vehicle. Look at how much trouble Tesla had and is still having. I'm really narrowing down to the ZR2 Bison. The fact I don't have to do almost any mods to do what I want and...

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

I was concerned about this as well, but that article seems to be based solely on the CR review which heavily penalized for past years (Note: Tacoma and a few other favorites don't do much better, either). They did have a transmission issue which is under the powertrain warranty and has been...

I mean, as much as I trust any car maker anyway :grimacing:
