    Weight distribution (unloaded)

Okay this might be a bit of a weird one, but here we go... Got a Colorado ZR2 Bison and it is my daily driver (whatever that means these days). Here's how she sits now: The problem is, when I'm in the truck (6'3" 180 lbs), there's a lot of weight on the drivers side (XL GearPod weighs 50lbs...

    Parts of the MABDR

I've been wanting to try this, but seems like mostly established campgrounds on this route? Any thoughts?

    Chevrolet Colorado

Here's my '21 Bison which I am really loving so far!

    Beginner recovery kit

Funny I looked at the same map and thought these were all too far  (traffic in DC...). This seems like the best option: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tuf-tug-cable-hoist-puller-20-ft-single-line

    Beginner recovery kit

Oh right. I'm not trying to hoist the vehicle in the air. I briefly forgot how rolling works.

    Beginner recovery kit

3 ton would be tight with a GVWR of 6100 lbs no?

    Beginner recovery kit

So I slept on this and I think the come-along might make a ton of sense. People kept recommending one and it seems like it can get you out of a bunch of sticky spots without a ton of work. I live in the city so there's no Tractor Supply near me, and the ones on amazon do not look promising! Lots...

    Beginner recovery kit

While I understand there is a difference, it seems like these terms are used interchangeable in the industry, which makes shopping difficult.

    Beginner recovery kit

Any recs for a shovel and axe? Tons and tons of options... WRT self recovery, you're 100% right. On the beach I'd almost never be alone (and OBX is pretty high traffic), and for other off-road situations I'd only venture on moderately trafficked areas alone. I just want to have enough stuff to...

    Beginner recovery kit

Here's my situation I've been doing vehicle based travel for awhile but just starting to venture off road. I'm a bit overtrucked (Chevy ZR2 Bison) but of course it's still possible to get stuck, so I wanted to add some recovery gear. I leave in VA so lots of mud, and I also do a lot of beach...

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

I'd recommend playing around with Gaia app on a few shorter drives (just around town) because I definitely learned a few things the hard way.

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

Yep, USUALLY if you drive a few FS roads you'll find a spot around here. In a pinch you could prob pull off into a turn around and camp. I'd be curious to see your route/trip report if you're feeling generous :)

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

I use this for gravel biking but never really thought about it for driving. One of my biggest issues is finding viable campsites. Of course, every forest service road I've driven on has had at least a few. I've been marking waypoints at every campsite with some notes like how many cars would...

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

I kind of have to hand it ton onX there, they have a bunch of info for the east coast which usually gets overlooked on overlanding apps (looking at you The Dyrt). That said, they don't list Peters Mill Run (which is very close to me) as needing a permit either.

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

Here's what they said: All three onX products (Hunt, Offroad, and Backcountry) have great data, and there is a lot of overlap between them, so it would be handy to have all that information in a single application. However, while researching and testing different ways to provide the...

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

Great idea. I sent them a nicely worded (i.e. not adversarial) email about this and also about route creation in the app (am I really that dumb or is there no way to create/export GPX?). I will 100% follow up if/when they reply. I haven't tried the Gaia navigation but I might this weekend on a...

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

Thanks, that makes SOME sense. Still, I think you could gain a lot by being able to switch views easily, and having only one app. I haven't looked at OB1 in almost 6mo, and then it was very primitive and had almost no information in my area. I'll take a look and see about adding info as I...

Why are onX three different apps instead of one app like Gaia?

Instead of another 'Gaia vs onX Backcountry' thread, I really just want to know why there are three different apps instead of one? This isn't even about the money; it's just a really janky experience. I like to mix overlanding, running, hiking, photography, and fishing/hunting, and so Gaia is...

    Virginia OLB Members

For sure, but at 2 million acres some areas have got to be better than others. On the other hand there are so many lightly used (except when you randomly have people using them for family reunions) campgrounds that you can always fall back to that. Getting into peak weather but sadly I'm having...

    In-cab gear storage

Let's get some thread resurrection going on! I wanted to follow up with a big fat thank you. As you said "Might seem a simple thing to many, but the struggle is real. Organization and ease of accessing gear when you want it can make or break an adventure." The solution really was simple, but had...
