Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

@PCO6, your LJ looks sweet! I like the height and the tires. Really like those half doors too! Thanks for the info on load range. Aaron

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Thanks for the advise on heim joints @The other Sean. So for suspension I'm going to do the OME 2" HD lift. This is simply new springs, shocks, and a rear trackbar relocation bracket. I'll probably replace both front and rear trackbars with adjustable versions but I plan to keep the lift simple...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

A bit of an update on my build. First thing was to get my FTM400XDR mounted up. I've got the face mounted above the rear view mirror. I've got the base mounted under the driver seat. I know this might be a problem if I get in some really deep water but that's not something I expect and will...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Yet again, thanks for the great feedback and pictures. I think I may be sold on those DT's. They really seem to be holding up well! I'm really trying to figure out if the taller lift is really necessary. The more I see and hear, the more I think the 2" lift with 32" tires is going to be more...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Thanks for the replies! So I'd like to see what kind of foot print I could get out of about 15psi given that's probably as low as I would want to go in normal conditions. One of the people I was off-road with this past weekend has the 285/75-16 (E rated) KO2's and when he dropped to 18psi...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Thanks for the reply. So you do have to go lower pressure on your D rated tires to get the same foot print as your brother on C rated tires. My concern is that I can only find E rated tires in 33" on 16" wheels (285/75-16). In order to keep a 33" tire and get a C or D rating, I have to change to...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

The low COG is why I'm leaning toward the 2" lift but I don't know that I can get 33" tires under it unless I go with a 3" lift. Even with 2" lift and 32" tires, it would be significantly better than it is now and it's pretty impressive as it sits. Any thoughts on the load range? Is an E rated...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Thanks for the info on your TJ. I've thought about a budget boost but the suspension has about 144000 on it so I think new springs to handle the extra gear and bumpers is warranted. As for the tire, I was looking at the DT yesterday as well. They look really good to me as well. We do see snow...

Build Advice Needed: Overland build of a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Hey there! I'm pretty new to the OB community but I love what I've seen so far. My wife and I just purchased a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon. This Jeep is basically bone stock other than slightly wider than stock tires. It has 144000 miles and from the looks of it was never used for...

New-to-us 2006 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (LJR)

We just got home from our first major adventure with our new Jeep. We flew from Portland OR to Dallas TX and purchased this "bone stock" Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. It looks like it's never seen dirt before we purchased it. We then drove it back home nearly 2100 miles with a stop in Moab for a...

Question for you about the forums. I started a post about the ham radio cram session in St. Helens OR and I'm curious if there is any restriction against putting the URL for the session on the forum. If it's not "okay" I'll just send PMs with the link to the people who've expressed interest...

Hey there from Columbia County Oregon!

I realized recently that I was hung up on what I "thought" made a "real" overlanding rig but after seeing a few videos from Michael about the subject and realized I needed to reset my definition. That's when I finally joined. I realized our family had been doing overland type adventures for...

Ham radio license - NW Oregon / SW Washington

Thanks, I need to look into the net. We run a local net on our repeater network every Tuesday evening but that's about the only net I normally check into. I need to start checking into some of the HF nets. Just too much "life" in the way lately. Aaron

Tread Lightly 101 Online Awareness Course

Great course! Thanks for the heads-up. Are there any other online courses that are recommended as good "baselines" for new members?

Ham radio license - NW Oregon / SW Washington

I'm a new member in Overland Bound but not new to ham radio. I'm a member of a ham radio club in St. Helens OR. We host a "ham cram" type training session every month (some exceptions during the summer). If anyone is interested in earning their Technician class license or upgrading from...

Hey there from Columbia County Oregon!

So I'm curious about something. I'm confused about how the tags and banners work on the forum. When I signed up for the forum, I added my OB number but I'm still not seeing "member" on my profile even though I do see my member number listed. Not sure if I just haven't set something up right on...

Hey there from Columbia County Oregon!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will definitely be sharing some pictures of our adventure rig once we get it. I'm also toying with the idea of converting a small cargo trailer or building my own. For now, I'm reading and formulating plans... For me, that's half the fun. Much more to follow...

Hey there from Columbia County Oregon!

I'm new to OB and new to the forum. Glad to finally be a member. I've been planning on joining for a while but was waiting till I was able to get a "real" overland rig. I've decided to quit waiting and join as-is. My wife and I love the outdoors and we do a fair amount of long distance hiking...
