Looks fantastic, a friend of mine went and said it wasn't really worth the trip but looking at those pics I think I'd disagree. Next year I'll have to get myself booked in!
I get your point smplone and It's good to have people to have key skills identified that they are best at but I still think that the main emphasis should always be on ensuring that every vehicle is able to sustain itself as much as is possible.
It should be able to leave the convoy at any point...
With Dehydrated and ground Peppers, Lime and Garlic you can make anything into a good meal.
Can't go without a vacuum packer too. Those things are the dogs.
If you're running stock height and setup on your suspension/braking components (around here!?) it's always worth checking manufacturers guidelines. Some aren't suitable to work with the clasp types of chains.
#2 would be my call. I'm planning on building something like that myself over winter. Spare access for me is also a concern but thankfully the main one is wind down underbody so an extension bar is an option here.

Getting a bit sick of the infernal clips on the darn things breaking and a few of the lids appear to have warped with time and...
I've got them on my Discovery and, like you, I think it's mainly aesthetics, at best it will stop a branch scratching the lenses (which is a bonus) or at a very lucky angle one in a million stop a rock/pebble hitting them.
They'd have to be some pretty lucky angles though.
I'm keeping mine...
