Who is a Vet, Active or First Responder?

Back on Nov 11 I was looking at some of the old photos - pre-cellphone of my old regiment. There are very few of any of us, but they brought back some fond memories of members who have since passed, mostly in their late 50's. Thought I would share this one Yakima Washington - 77 - I am the...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

Because I am older, and grumpy today - AR's would be fine up here and were for years. But we have a political party whose ideology is no Canadian should own any firearms and they use US events to push that agenda the AR and handguns are a favorite target for their propaganda. That is just so...

What's the deal with repair parts these days???

For the fellow in the US parts are often available, but shipping to Canada is both slower and more expensive than shipping from the UK go figure. It appeas both UPS and Fedex ship ground to Canada at a higher cost in general. Parts from the UK ship DHL air to Vancouver it takes 5 to 7 days...

What's the deal with repair parts these days???

Well I feel the pain I own a Land Rover Discovery II, any Land Rover models prior to the D2 parts are actually not bad to find but the D2, can be really tough. I mostly order from the UK, but some bits are LHD specfic and a bit hard to get.

Recovering a 2020 Defender from the top of a mountain

I gather the horseflys and mossies were epically bad for the recovery work

    Dog Gone, Camping

I do not have a dog, but every morning at breakfast when I am out with my local rover group I have many. Apparently bacon is an excellent dog attractant, even if they can not have any.

Recovering a 2020 Defender from the top of a mountain

@genocache interesting thanks for the info. We did have another new defender which had no issues. I will note I did note assist in the recovery just getting the owner, to a hotel where he had solid internet to get things sorted out. Still feel bad about having to leave the truck up there...

Recovering a 2020 Defender from the top of a mountain

As written by Don Macdonald of Rovalution for the BC Roverlanders summer newsletter Leo and I were on our week-long off-road camping trip with a few other Land Rover folks in mid July 2023. The weather was hot and dry. We were traveling toward the Kootenays to explore some old mining roads...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Even if I get out for day, I enjoy myself. It is quiet, just me my truck and universe. And best of all because it is BC, 20 minutes up the FSR no cell service I get to completely disconnect.

Jeep Wave is dead. Now introducing the Overland Wave!!

@DintDobbs @MOAK I found the LR thing quite funny, I have met those guys in every rec hobby I have. But to the LR comment, we left this guy on the top of a place called Sugar Mountain. 2020 Defender had a massive steering rack failure, you can see his tires do not point the same way. 1st...

Do you "pack light" or heavy?

I yoyo between light and heavy, in my 20's very light now in my 60's heavier. It is the comfort things and, the just-in-case extra clothes, blankets, food, pup tent, hiking pack that add up. As I am often well out of everything but satellite range, and that can be iffy in mountain valleys...

Jeep Wave is dead. Now introducing the Overland Wave!!

Pretty sure the Land Rover guys would use a oil catch basin instead of a duck :grinning:

What’s the best way to stay warm in my rooftop tent?

I suspect they used something similar to one of these 12 Volt Heating Blanket and 12v Heater or a 12 volt heated mattress pad. They are mostly used in the trucking industry but mostly like a heating blanket to keep you warm while sleeping. I have my doubts but keeping warm if you need to be...

What’s the best way to stay warm in my rooftop tent?

Good sleeping bag and some extra blankets as noted. I am north of you in BC, a small battery operated fan to pull air out really helps with condensation. If you are looking for heat the chinese diseal heaters work very well - but you then need a battery to run it. A Jackery 240 will run...

Overlanding in a Full-Size Truck - Comfortable family rig or doomed like the Titanic?

So you are actually talking about what use old guys called a crew cab - 4 door pickup. Your limitations are turning radius mostly, and here the Pacific Northwest cross ditches due to your length. But having said that we have a member up here with a Land Rover D-130 king cab at just shy of...

Questions on overlanding with a pup

A few things, from watching others with dogs: Ticks are an issue in many places check your dog everyday, they are easier to deal with right away and less chance of tick related illness Raised dog beds are great to keep your dog out of the dirt and crap on the ground If there are other dogs...

Let's see those rigs in action

Not your typical rigs in action but: Out for a drive yesterday and had an interesting experience. Around 10 am I saw this heli moving along the power lines. At 4:30 heading home a white pickup pulled up beside me, he was one of the fellows in the heli, and air-dropped me this video. The...
