The wife and I like hot food when we're out. We just cook on the campfire most of the time. I have a new camp grill OTW and we have cooking pans/utensils so we'll have heat and pans.
Of course if all y'all want to eat is sandwiches that's fine. I'll just let ya know if you want we can cook up...
Just called and made tent camping reservations for the 22nd and 24th. They said they have about 10 left.
Just a heads up in case you wanted to stay there.
<edit> This is at Panamint Springs Resort.
I figured I'd let the wife think about that when she gets back. We range from backpacking meals to bacon and eggs cooked in cast iron over a campfire. We'll happily do what the group wants.
Looks like it'll be small number so I don't mind bringing the cast iron and doing up some cooking in the...
I'm betting that airplane mode turned off location services. When I go outside of the service area I use airplane mode to turn off all radios and then enable location services.
Especially if I leave the vehicle to go hiking. Those radios eat a ton of power.
The GPS in the newer phones is pretty accurate. I had a custom security application that I could actually see what office of the building my phone was in.
Don't rely on a peice of software that requires and active connection. Find an app that allows you to download maps and use your GPS...
If the wife and I don't have Thursday plans we might drive to Panamint springs and camp there for the night.
They now have an ATM for our convenience too! :)
Wife and I would be coming from Las Vegas. Not sure what our Thursday looks like. Might need to drive in on Friday morning and catch you guys at Panamint Springs.
The wife's contract dates just changed so I might be able to go on this. We're really novice in the driving but the camping thing we have dialed in.
Imagine this would be our first offroad overnight. What do you recommend besides camping and the basic recovery/repair gear?
Great story and good lesson. Gonna have to keep that in my back pocket.
Also brings up something about security systems; they drain juice, especially satellite connected ones. The wife's motorcycle with Lo-Jack on it can only sit for 6 or 7 days before the system drains that battery to the...
If you do pic one up here is a quick note: Some folks have a problem with the blade banging on the rear chicago screw. I have the screw tightened down so the bade never quite reaches the screw to bang on it. You'll likely need to adjust the screws when you get it to fit your feel for how it...
The knife I've been using a lot is a Svord peasant knife. It's got a lot of the advantages of a folding knife and the sold feel of a full tang knife. I have the 3" blade and I use it a lot as my utility knife when in the garage and out and about.
To boot it's under $20. Needs a bit of...
Thanks for the article and it's interesting to see how gear is evolving. Our focus in the past was backpacking so all our camping gear is as light and compact as we could afford to make it.
I've been trying to apply that same focus on lightweight bang-for-the-buck in the overlanding but the...
Thieves knew what was in your garage and targeted you. That sucks mate.
However thanks for sharing security thoughts. That GPS tracker might be worth the extra peace of mind.
Nice video. What's funny is I went from a long wheel base to a short this summer. I came from Texas and work downtown. The F150 was just too much hassle to maneuver in the parking area and alleys. The FJ fits the work area much better.
I do miss that extra room but it hasn't been a problem thus...
That's actually my point in this discussion. We will need it to participate with others and safely go on those longer or more, ummm, exciting, rides. I'm looking for the format that will give me the best bang for my limited buck and doesn't require my studying to utilize. I will say I'm happy...
