Great! That means you know the dimensions your working with. That also means you now have the info you need for weight carrying capacity and that gives way to research on how you want to deal with the rear suspension.
If your looking for backcountry exploration type of overlanding, the...
By Small pickup can we assume you are referring to a Mid size or mini size pickup, i.e. Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado...?
If we can assume these as facts, then lets dive into real world use of said small pickup. Is this going to see more paved roads than dirt roads?
Paved road...
Also, another welder is bentrodder on the TacomaWorld forum. He made the bedside supports for my Tacoma and does all kinds of work for the local Bay Area Tacoma community. He is located in Cotati though. May be a long drive. Really good guy and his welds look fantastic.

Welcome to the community.
May I recommend a copy of: Guide to California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails
That's a handy travel guide to some great places in California and the guide helps you in determining if your equipped with the right tools for the trip.

After all that playing in the mud, I highly suggest y'all inspect your inner tie rod boots, cv boots and any other relevant areas where intrusion can wreak havoc. Mud can be fun to play in, however, the clean up afterwards is hell. I also recommend a WD-40 hose down of the undercarriage. Or pick...
I think the all caps was in response to the overwhelming mass of misinformation flooding(see what I did there...?) the inter webs about the situation. I feel it was warranted. The dam itself isn't failing. The spillways are. When the sinkhole first appeared on the main spillway, there was...
Punctuation and grammar are key when trying to sell something ;) Goodluck with the sale. I still say I would love to have this truck. I have not the space, nor the time.
It reminds me of my 87 turbo pickup I had when I was a teenager. That poor truck saved my life.

I would have loved to be in attendance. Looked like a lot of interesting rigs and gear on display. Hopefully, next time I'll be free when one of these gets planned.
I've been curious about this as well. Time to put in a call to the ranger station. They are always friendly and helpful with advice.

Correct. Jerry used to do installs, but with liability being what it is and the fact that he is not a repair shop, he no longer does the installs. He is fabrication only. He has recommendations as to where you can go for installs. Most people who cannot weld buy the bolt on items anyways. My...
Diablo Offroad welded my BAMF sliders on. While he was a nice guy, I wouldn't recommend his services. It took him all day to burn on a set of sliders. I arrived at opening hours and he didn't touch the truck till 2pm. He had no other work at the time. he didn't finish the job until 8pm. Thats...
I'd say my biggest mistake was putting 35's on my old 67 FJ40. I couldn't stand the on road manners and sold it off about a year later. I know if I had kept the 33's I'd probably still have it to this day.

I would have searched harder for an FJ45 pickup LandCruiser. I am actually actively trying to sell my current FJ40(due to a youngling on the way) and bide my time looking for the "right" FJ45.
I am editing this so as to describe the current vehicle. I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro. It is great for...
I had just over 35k on the Duratracs before they required "retirement". They were kept as spares until they expired. The current BFG's now have over 40k and they still have way more meat on them. I plan on changing them out for Duratracs here in a few months.

Airing down is good. Upgrading to a shock/spring combo better suited for the terrain is better.
Speed = heat = shock valve degradation. The better suited the valving for the terrain, the better ride you will have.
The tough part is that most of us use our vehicles as daily drivers as well...
Now, this is how the community becomes a true community. I have a few things floating around my garage. I shall go through them soon and get them up here. I know someone could use them.
I'll second a recommendation of Jerry @ Bay Area Metal Fabrication in Benicia.
I have a pair of sliders from him. Top notch quality and great customer service. He kinda "overbuilds" everything...
