An abandoned line in Anza Borrego.... Next challenge: Your truck in front of your favorite watering hole, bar, saloon, speakeasy, etc... Sorry I cannot accept your truck parked in front on an Applebees or TGI Fridays, the bar must have some semblance of character and soul, and preferably history.

School me on 100 Series LandCruisers!

How do you figure an LX will be much easier on the wallet than a Land Cruiser? If anything, the LX would be the most expensive parts wise, of the 3 vehicles. LX parts are usually 10 percent more than identical LC parts. The "Lexus tax".

Cerro Gordo , Swansea Salt Tram, and Alabama Hills

The road continues past Cerro Gordo into what is called San Lucas canyon. SLC will take into the far western reaches of death valley. You could find plenty of spots in SLC or when it opens up at a much lower elevation. I spent a night off a side road in SLC. I'd wager a paycheck you would be...

Death Valley with a Pacific Overlander rental

I can't think of any places in DV I'd recommend not visiting, but Saline Valley springs is close. The springs are simply overrun with visitors these days. You can reach the springs in a Subaru most of the time. If you do visit the springs, be prepared for crowds, elbowing your way into a petri...

School me on 100 Series LandCruisers!

We love our 07' LX. We deleted the AHC system in favor of an OME suspension. Starter is a pain but it will let you know when it's on it's way out. Plenty of people have driven plenty of miles with the cracked manifold. It's not the kind of issue that will leave you stranded. There is a slight...

Winch powered by Starting or Auxiliary power? What do you recommend?

Common consensus is winch connects to starting battery.

Help me decide Dometic or Snomaster fridge?

I have a Dometic 50 qt. and a dual battery in my 100 series. When the Dometic is not in the car, it's running off 110v in the garage as our beer fridge. It's essentially been running for a year and a half straight, no issues at all.

    Tablets and mounting hardware

RAM components are the gold standard IMO. But no matter what you use, or if you drill or bolt in, the more attachment points you have to secure the tablet, the better. People will claim they can mount an iPad from their A/C vent and it's "solid". Multiple attachment points help reduce the...

Galaxy Tab or Apple iPad Mini?

I have a Galaxy Tab A, 10" screen, that I run GAIA on. I also have a Samsung phone. The biggest selling point was the option to load an SD card in the Samsung to store all the downloaded maps. With the iPad your limited to the amount of storage that comes with the iPad, which determines price.

    Airing down. And up.

A 150 lb. regulator: https://wheelersoffroad.com/i-25490058-hyperflo-150psi-non-adjustable-co2-regulator-reg150.html 1/4 inch hose and fittings is another $25, easily found anywhere. Powertank is a total waste of money, you can put together you're own setup for far less, plus you already have...

Check out Garcia Ridge trail off Hi mtn. Road. (Runs between Lopez lake and Pozo saloon) Garcia is tougher but Hi mtn is an easy scenic trail. Your close to Carrizo Plains as well. I went to grad school at Cal Poly and did my student teaching in Cayucos...I miss the whole area

Channeling my best Crocodile Dundee voice, "that's not a river crossing, this is a river crossing!". But I'm zero for two on the challenges I've named, a baby in your truck and in front of a mine, so @Smileyshaun name the next one....

    Overlanding With Toddlers Discussion Thread

We have a 2 year old and a 5 month old. I'll get to the point of what we've learned so far. -Dial everything down. Distance traveled, time in carseats, difficulty of the trail, remoteness, whatever. -Pack lots of toys. We bring a new toy for them every drive, something simple that's new and...

JKUR gear ratio 4.88 or 5.13? Anyone swap to either ratio?

Go low. I have 5.29's albeit in my 4 cylinder Toyota crawler. The whole argument that 4.88's are somehow marginally stronger than say 5.13 is silly in my opinion. It's been debunked numerous times if you look into it. It's also a silly argument if you have other weak links in your stock axles...

    Rotopax vs. Fuelpax

I carry mine up on my home made roof rack, side by side. You can't see it but there is a threaded rod that goes through the center of the rotos, and I have a big flat washer that cinches down the center of the rotos to the roof rack. And I also have a ratchet strap holding them on for redundancy
