    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

No pics, but a friend of mine did this last summer. She did a 2 week nation park tour in her 07 Toyota YARIS. She mostly tent camped, but she DID have the ability via a specially designed inflatable mattress she bought to sleep in the rear seat. The car is getting old though, so she's...

    Hi Lift help...

I think a lot of folks carry Hi Lifts more for an appearance mod than anything else. I had one in my Grand Cherokee that had sliders, and I used it in the same way as Kevin did with his FJ above. In my case the Jeep was buried in mud up to the rockers. Two trucks couldn't budge me. Luckily I...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

In the process of outfitting my rig for this season... Bought a 2pack of Wsky "tactical" flashlights for 9.99 that came up as a Lightning deal on Amazon. Going to keep one in the console and 1 in the cargo area. Also, scored a new-in-box Coleman camp stove/grille at a relative's basement...

    Overlanding the northeast/new england

Kingdom Trail in East Burke, VT - amazing riding! Basically, it's 50+ adjacent landowners that have allowed the trail association to build and maintain trails on their land. There are miles and miles of beautiful trails running through the woods and open pastures. Nothing there is too...

    What should I do first?

Sliders are worth it for the peace of mind alone. I remember when I first put sliders on my old ZJ, I felt invincible in the rocks, haha. Pre-sliders I was always nervous as heck.

    What should I do first?

High lift jack is cool as you can use it for a few things. A very slow winch if you have the right gear. And I've heard of the handle being used to sleeve a bent tie rod. I used to carry one in my Jeep and used the handle as a bigass breaker bar a few times, haha. To use it as a jack though...

    Help me choose a rig!

I hear ya, but I don't want to deal with frame replacements on a 4-5k dollar truck. I doubt Toyota would either. It's not a matter of surface rust, you're right about the east coast, heck you can go to a new car lot and find rusty driveshafts and steering components, etc on BRAND NEW vehicles...

How long to wait for Gobi rack? coming up on 19 weeks

About 15 years for me. in the early '00s when they were pretty new they had told me on a board I posted on that they wanted to do a Grand Cherokee model and would send me a prototype. They never followed up on it.

    LED lighting Strips

AWESOME! I was just thinking of doing this the other night, I'm glad I found this thread. I'm in the process of outfitting my XC70 to be more useful on camping trips, and interior lighting like this is high on the list. I think I may also put some IN the car around the cargo area as well, to...

    Jeep WJ Overland Build

I disagree, I think the 4.0 is underpowered in this application and would not buy a 4.0 powered WJ. I had a 4.0 ZJ with 3.73's and 31's and it was a slug and got lowsy mileage. FYI, I wouldn't put a locker up front with Q-Trac, perhaps a ltd slip, but it will def be a bear to drive with a front...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Bought a Cold Steel "special forces" mini shovel to keep in the back of my XC70. I tried it out chopping a fallen branch in my yard, it's actually pretty legit! I feel it will be useful to have when camping or when doing impromptu trail maintenance when mountain biking. I'll prob end up with a...

    Help me choose a rig!

My buddy from T4R.org was nice enough to check it out for me as he was in the area. Like pretty much every 3rd gen 4Runner in the area, it looks clean topside, but has frame issues. Moving on. I wonder if I'd have better luck with a Gen 1 Seqouia? Or perhaps I need to up my budget to spring for...

    My Grand Cherokee cargo insert

Looks good! And ZJ FTW!! I used to have a '97 4.0 on 31's.

    Help me choose a rig!

Going to look at a 3rd gen tonight! '00 SR5 with 127k miles. I'm hoping it has the locker!

    WK2's Check In!

I dunno, personally I like the box. Yeah the rack LOOKS cooler, but I like that gear is slightly more secure and DRY in the box. Plus it's prob better for mpg.

    Help me choose a rig!

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking I may have to up the budget. I CAN find something in my budget, but I'm noticing anything in that range is going to need immediate maintenance. OR, have questionable mods done by previous owners. I recently found a really nice 04 Suburban for under 4 grand sitting on...

    Rooftop tents?

Honestly, while they look cool and "nifty" to me, they also seem like they'd be a PITA. Unless you plan on setting up and not moving the vehicle for a few days, they seem less than practical to me. Typically, when I camp, we'll set up the tent and whatnot, then jump in the car to shuttle us...

My 05 GX470 Build. Slowly moving along.

Awesome! I was just looking at these on CL. How are they offroad? Do they have a rear locker or any sort of limited slip or useful traction control?

    Offical Piggy Bank Savings Thread

Most of that is loss is probably all the extra junk on the roof, but look on the bright side...all that overland street cred! lol Seriously though, is that your DD? Maybe only mount the tent on the roof when heading out on trips? And for the original post, I'm saving for a rig. Currently...

    Good jumper box/air compressor?

Not sure if this is specifically "overlanding" gear, but I'm going to use it for that purpose. I'm looking for a good battery jumper box (booster box, whatever one calls them) that also has a built in air compressor and some charging ports to charge phones and whatnot. I want to keep this in...
