I love the look of those, but man, everything I hear about the reliability...
I'm certainly glad yours did such a great job keeping you and your family safe!
Those are definitely beefy and look strong, but since they're mounted so low and far back, is the front bumper at risk of being damaged or torn off if the pull is at an up angle?
Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the great insight!
I've been thinking about the Volvo... I don't really have any emotional attachment to the car. I can certainly see why you have attachment to your Burb, I would too in your shoes. It doesn't get good enough mileage to be a good...
Thanks! Yes, I know from experience messing with tire size and suspension height lowers MPG. It's finding the sweet spot where the loss is minimal compared to the capability gain. On my old Grand Cherokee, 2" of lift and 245/75/16 was that sweet spot.
The vehicle will definitely be a "do-all"...
I don't own a Silverado, and am not an expert on the newer trucks (though I do know a little, I'm a GM truck guy from way back) , but here are my thoughts. Take them with a grain of salt, and I highly suggest posting on a GM specific forum. There is a giant one for GM trucks, it will come up in...
Your wife is a smart woman! While it's not as cool as a 4R, as a DD the Highlander is better in every way than the 4R, other than offroading. I think the Highlander can even tow more.
I have some friends out in LA and San Diego, I'm starting to think I should find one out there, and drive it back while hitting Death Valley, Moab, etc on the way back. My friend in SD and her bf get out into the desert in his 80 series a lot, maybe I can enlist him to find me a good one.
Checked out your build thread over there...
NICE!!
You're definitely doing it right, both in terms of build and use. Looking at your thread made me almost think I don't DESERVE a LX, I don't have the skills to make the upgrades you did, nor do I really have any place to use it like you do. I...
Thanks for the info!
That's what I was thinking, if I can find one for under 10k I can pay cash, and by not having a car payment I'll have the money for repairs and fuel. A LOT of fuel, I drive about 400 miles a week.
If I have to finance a small part of a higher priced one, I'll do that, but...
Thanks for the info! I'll check out that IH8MUD. I've seen references to it before, but I was hoping to avoid joining yet another auto forum, haha. I was thinking there'd be a lot of 100 series owners here.
I'm going to check out your build thread over there too.
Oh, and the burgundy one was...
Ah, so that explains why I've seen people mentioning them as a mod on the GX and LC forums. I thought it was kind of silly, as on an application like that headers aren't going to net very much power, but it makes sense now if they're a replacement to an inferior OEM part. Not sure I'd be able...
Thanks for the info!
I've been looking into it more. The extra power of the VVTI motor would be much appreciated, but those 06/07's are sure up there in price compared to the earlier models. Not sure I can justify that big bump.
As far as the '03-up with the 5 speed trans, is there a...
After going back and forth on a bunch of different rigs, I think I've settled on a 100 Series LC, whether it be a Toyota or Lexus version.
I originally thought I wanted a 3rd gen 4Runner, but I'm having a hard time finding one in good shape that I like, and after driving one I think they may be...
Pics aren't showing up for me. Looking forward to seeing the finished pics of the rear bumper though!
Let me ask you (and sorry to derail your thread), but I'm thinking of getting one of these, the first gen like yours. Any advice on purchasing? I have it in my head I want the '05+ for the...
I would love to see a writeup on that blue Burb!
Right now I have a '07 Volvo XC70 wagon. It's all stock, it's not built up like YoungSatchel's on here. It's my DD, and I use it to commute back and forth to work and as a bike hauler. I like to mountainbike, and the bike fits easily inside with...
