Rock sliders - paint, powdercoat or linex???

I didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been posted... I would paint them, then LineX (or rattle can equivalent if you're cheap like me) just the tops of them as a non-skid surface, IF you use them as a step. If not, then just paint. Much cheaper and easier to touch up...

    Antherzoll's 2005 Volvo XC70 Vehicle/Trip Thread

Ouch. I consider myself quite lucky that this has been the first real problem I've had with this car since buying it 6 years ago at 90k miles. Other than the timing belt, I've done all the work on it myself. Pretty much just fluid changes, brakes, and suspension/steering component...

My 05 GX470 Build. Slowly moving along.

Any updates? I'm seriously starting to consider one of these, I'd love to see your progress!

    Antherzoll's 2005 Volvo XC70 Vehicle/Trip Thread

Well, I might not have to buy tires. It rained today for the first time in a while, and I hit the gas in a spirited manner this morning to cross a busy intersection, and was greeted by copious amounts of front wheelspin and a flashing low traction light. So, it appears the AWD is not working. A...

    2004 WJ Laredo

I know I'm replying to an older post, and you've decided to keep your Dub, but don't get hung up on the T4R Pro. Unless you want to fly down rough roads at high speed, the 4R doesn't really have anything on your WJ. You already have a lift, all you need is better tires, rock sliders, and a rear...

Black Sheep Expedition 2007 Chevy Tahoe Build OB#0951 NC Based

Looks great so far! I don't see too many of the newer body style Ho's being built, yours looks terrific.

    Black Betty

Getting rid of the blingy wheels was a great first step! For the next step, I would remove the running boards to free up some extra clearance.

    Antherzoll's 2005 Volvo XC70 Vehicle/Trip Thread

Thanks for the info! I may give that tire size a shot, or perhaps just one size down from that to avoid any issues. I'm debating the rack, I don't want to take the mileage hit full time, but can justify it on a trip. Maybe I'll pick up an inexpensive one and mount it like you did...I'm thinking...

    Antherzoll's 2005 Volvo XC70 Vehicle/Trip Thread

Great thread! Those are some fantastic pics, they make me want to get out and explore more. Between you and YoungSatchel, I really want to get out and do more with my '07 XC70. Couple of questions: Do you have any more detailed pics or info on what exactly you had to do to make those tires...

    Good jumper box/air compressor?

Well, I've used it a few times, or at least the air compressor. Haven't had a chance to jump a car with it yet. Was going to do my Firebird, but I had neglected to charge the box and then needed to move the car ASAP, so I had to whip out the jumper cables and the Volvo to the rescue. (It's an...

    03 Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Just catching up on your build, it's looking great! I really like the job you did on the bumper and accessories, it looks fantastic and very functional. Also, great wheeling pics. Solid axles FTW! Makes me miss my old ZJ. I'm currently looking for a 3rd gen 4Runner to build, but this makes me...

The Adventure Wagon: A 2004 Volvo XC70 Overland Build

Just catching up on this thread and noticed this... Your math is off a bit... 8.2" + 2" = 10.2". Granted, it's not as drastic as throwing a 6" lift and 40's on a Jeep, but a 2" gain in clearance under the diffs is comparable to going from a 31" tire to a 35" tire on a solid axle rig.

    Volvo XC70D5

Great setup! I have an '07 XC70 that I want to build up a bit. They're great cars, I really like mine. Mine is the use version, so all we have is the 2.5T motor. How did you lift it 1"?

    Better Tires

Yes, you definitely need to get an alignment after lifting. If I remember correctly, that type of wear is due to the toe being off. Get that thing aligned before getting new tires.

    The Semi-urban Suburban: 1997 Suburban K1500

Great build! I really like that body style Suburban, it's my 2nd favorite behind the "squarebody" style. That blue one you posted was quite possibly the coolest Sub I've ever seen. I kind of want to do a Sub build of my own, but I'm not quite sure I need a fullsize (or at least one that big)...

    Do you use your awning?

Thanks! Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I'm going to give that a shot before shelling out the $$ on an ARB.

    Do you use your awning?

I don't have one, but I definitely want one. I'm currently just starting to think about how to make my own, though I'll prob just copy one of the DIY ideas that are already out there. I don't even really want it for camping, more for just a shady spot on a weekend afternoon. There's a great...

    Good jumper box/air compressor?

Will do. Main reason I bought it now is that my Firebird is sitting in front of my house with a dead battery, and I'm just over trying to reposition my Volvo and mess with jumper cables to jump it. The Volvo battery is under the rear cargo floor, so the underhood jump points are a PITA. I just...

    Anybody drive something...

Good! I was gonna say, my aunt has the GMC version of this, and it's giant inside. WAY more room than a traditional SUV. I also noticed, that while it's a crossover, it has some pretty big tires on it. I know you said it has new tires, but when you replace those, I imagine you'll have a pretty...

    Good jumper box/air compressor?

I ended up buying one finally, I picked it up last week. I ended up just getting one from Harbor Freight for $69.99. It had a lot of good reviews, and with a 20% off coupon it ended up costing 55 bucks. It's the Centech brand 4 in 1 (I believe), and meets all the requirements I had originally...
