Do you really need heated seats and remote start?

I grew up in an era before AC. If you have to be that comfortable, just stay home. It is no longer an adventure if you bring your whole world along with you.

So far from spring. Forecast 2-4 feet of snow.

Well we are at about 18" of heavy snow with 30mph winds. Luckily the snow is wet enough it isn't blowing around much. They are forecasting another 24 hours of constant snow. It snowed 2" while I was doing the shoveling this morning.

Skinny tires are actually better in deep snow.

So far from spring. Forecast 2-4 feet of snow.

I am busy repairing a bad centering ball on my front driveshaft to get ready for a big snow storm.. They are forecasting two to four feet of snow in the next 48 hours. The only people I trust less than politicians are weather forecasters. I figure we might get 10 inches. I will be ready...

    Higher Fuel Prices And Overlanding

Your gas prices have been going up an average of 10 cents a week per gallon. Biden has said in the past he would like to see gas prices over $5 a gallon. At this rate, it could be there by the end of summer.

Am I crazy? - building a press brake!

A lot of effort went into the fabrication of the die set and I salute that. Watch ebay and the web and you can score used heavy hardened steel sets used for cheap from time to time and save a ton of money and work. You still would have to make a substantial frame but the dies would handle...

Am I crazy? - building a press brake!

Being an engineer, machinist, and fabricator, I want a large press brake for my designs. The problem is that I need something with a minimum of 400 tons of force to bend .25" plate steel that is 6-8 feet wide. To be strong enough, commercial brakes weigh tens of tons in that range. The...

What is your favorite overland/camp stove?

That is funny. I have lived in Colorado for over 50 years, many above 9000 ft. We heated a home with propane and used propane stoves. I have camped at 11,000ft and had no big issues with propane. Yes, the flame is a bit weaker due to less oxygen but on most grills there is a simple...

    Diesel heater while traveling?

Going down the road with the heater running can be problematic. Getting it to vent correctly is a crap shoot. Personally, I would not try it.

What is a good external ham antenna for BaoFeng handeld?

There are losses with any coax cable. The better the quality and match, the less the loss. Even with the loss, the antenna gain will more than make up for it. I would run RG316 coax. The antenna above looks good. Ideally, mount it to a good grounded bracket , ideally mount it in the...

Share how it all started - Homage to the beginnings - Your story is welcome here!

My first overland experience was the summer of 1952, 69 years ago. I was 6 weeks old and my parents struck out from Texas in a Woody wagon and went all the way through Colorado and up to the Tetons and Yellowstone. I have a pix somewhere of me on that trip. I guess it has always been in my blood.
