US Northwest June 2020 WABDR - Washington Backcountry Discovery Route

The way that the BDR's are created it take into account fuel stops. Unless you drive a vehicle that has a small tank and gets really bad mileage, you should have no issues doing the sections with no extra fuel. Each section is +/- 100 miles. Most are less than 100 miles. I completed the WABDR...

    Gullwing doors

While I think they will be water resistant and not leak under most circumstances, I would not put money on them never leaking. Once you remove the factory glass, nothing is going to be as water tight as a replacement factory glass. Now, if you live in the southwest and park in a garage this may...

Complete and total Kayak Noob. What do I get?

OK, 11ft sit-on. I like that and the price is about where I want to be. Seems like a perfect Kayak for my needs. Thank you.

Did you "baseline" your rig for overlanding, or just drive it and fix what was broke?

What is your definition of used or old? If I go buy a 5-8 year old rig, then I would just do a few checks, fluids, etc. Basically I would just give it a good once over, but it should not need too much. However if I pull a 55 year old truck out of the weeds from behind a barn (My 65 Chevy C-10...

Complete and total Kayak Noob. What do I get?

At this moment I have no plans to do any river runs. The lakes/big ponds I plan to run around are clean and no rocks and branches. However, I see that the roto molded would be sturdier. I'm just not sure if there is any reason to go sit in vs. sit on. I know longer is better for stability...

Complete and total Kayak Noob. What do I get?

So, I have been wanting to get a kayak for several years now and I just have not pulled the trigger yet. I moved to an area that there are quite a few small lakes with access to non-motorized boats. While there are also rivers, I don't want to do river Kayaking. My budget is $200-400 and this...

Refilling 1lb tanks, who does it?

I may have to buy some of the Flame King ones, but as stated, a bit hard to find and not cheap. For now I have 5 new ones and an adapter to fill. I will see how that goes and keep my eyes open for the Flame King one to be back on Amazon or some other reputable retailer.

Refilling 1lb tanks, who does it?

As I am working through the downsizing of my gear and re-thinking things, I have changed the stove I use from the larger Coleman 425 to a slimmer Colman that uses the green tanks. I love my 425, but it is large and has limitations. But you can't beat the smell, memories. Anyway, my new stove...

    Scottles Worth the Price?

I keep looking at the Scottle and I am just not sure it is right for my style of camping/overlanding. I go with my wife, and sometimes a small group, but mostly just the 2 of us. I have also recently ordered a new Subaru Ascent and I am selling the 2500 Suburban. So, I am downsizing a lot. I...

    Paper towel dispenser

Yep, bungee cord here too. A side effect of the bungee cord is that it puts pressure on the roll to keep it from unrolling.

Personal and portable for the healthy conscience

While I have not camped with mine, I have a different brand that I have taken with me in Hotels. I am in a new Hotel every week for work and I have brought my small blender with me. I quit as it takes up more space that I have available and I have also changed my diet slightly. However when I...

Looking for info on Subaru Ascent

I did a search and read that there are people here with Ascents, but no info on how well they work. Also, can any one tell me if the back area is big enough to sleep 2? I want to put a platform in one and not have to use a RTT.

Big(ish) Trailer to follow the Big Van

Cool trailer, I like it. Do be careful with the roof rack, that trailer is a wood frame type and the walls/roof are not really designed to carry much load. If you off-road it much you will want to reseal it at least once year, the wood frames flex more than the aluminum and thi will cause...

Am I brilliant or just lazy? Efficient Dinnerware.

I only use a plate when I am at home and my wife is watching. Otherwise I alway eat directly out of the pot I cooked it in. I travel a lot, so this is normal for me. If your dog is along, have them lick the pot clean, then you need less water to clean up the pot. Just a little spritz to disinfect.

    Looking for trail toilet ideas

Looks OK, but at $1000 for a camp toilet, I think I will keep looking. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look into the Portta-Potties and Peatmoss/coconut options.

    Looking for trail toilet ideas

OK, I know that everyone just digs a hole and does what the bears do. However, I travel with my wife and this is not an option for various reasons that are not important right now. My current set-up is a "Luggable-Loo". I use the Campco bags with the jell powder, but no matter what I try, there...
