How to Start a Fire - Collected Wisdom

^ Not worried about attracting critters with the smell of bacon? For instance I know it can attract Canadians almost as effectively as beer, lol.

OB Approved Following Your Spotter’s Signals

This is my example of spotting. I'm the voice.... my wife is driving my FJ. She has not done any wheeling prior to this. I asked her to simply pull the FJ up to the bottom of this obstacle-ridden steep incline... and she pulled up and started driving up the incline, stating she will drive it...

    Calgary - August 18

One of the attending members made a little video. Not really wheeling... just some exploring. It was good to see the area again.

Katadyn Base Camp Pro - Water Filter

Yeah, she wasn't too impressed with the pumping either, lol. And truth be told... I'm getting tired of it too considering a family of 4 can go through a 20L jug of water in a couple days when the weather is warm.

Katadyn Base Camp Pro - Water Filter

Katadyn seems to be a good product. I've got the Katadyn Vario and have used it for a couple years now. When we're camping we don't take much water and use this to fill up our 20L jug. It takes about 20 minutes of pumping. My wife was on water duty this past trip and afterwards she was more...

    Axes

I prefer a full size axe... it fits nicely behind the rear seat wedged in behind my ARB fridge. It's a relatively light splitting axe. It has a bit of a wedge on it that helps with the splitting.... and yet it's light enough and sharp enough that I can chop a tree down if needed. My 10 yr old...

    Axes

I just have a basic Fiskars axe with the plastic axe-head guard (which is great for packing). I'm not using my axe to create sculptures so a basic axe is more than plenty for me to chop firewood and/or dirt.

    OB Approved Camping with Firearms

(sounds like you got this well covered, but just in case... and for other readers...) re: crossing the border into Canada with spray Just remember to have the bear spray that is clearly marked for bears. "Pepper spray" or "OC spray" designed for self defence against humans is illegal in...

    OB Approved Camping with Firearms

Pepper spray has a higher scoville unit count than bear spray, making it in fact stronger so that argument is invalid. I believe he was referring to bear spray anyway. Statistics... you can make them say what you want. It's only based on whatever study group they choose to use. It's like saying...

I have a few canisters of bear spray and some bear bangers strategically placed for the curious critters... but if a goal-oriented bear is coming at me or my family... OO buck followed by a few rifled 1 oz slugs is where I will place my faith.
