I'll add a little to the history side. I grew up at a farm country repair shop. Every farm had at least one jack if not more. In those days, we called them Handy-Man Jacks. I'm not sure if they became Hi-Lift or if there was some other transition.
They were used for all the obvious lifting...
I have the Matco and I run a repair shop. It's been used a lot and it will typically jump about 12 cars without a charge. Got a second one in my truck for personal use and I had a reminder set every six months to check it for re-charge. Just recently changed that to 8 months.
I too am on a 100mb service and the pages load very slowly. If the thread is picture heavy, I only get pics on the first 5-6 posts and none of the rest. This is particularly aggravating on build threads, etc.

I'm going to have to put ArkansasDon on the ignore list. Every time I read one of his posts on the cooking thread it causes me to gain a couple of pounds.
I carry both but the saw gets about 90% of the work. The ax only comes out if some wood splitting or hammering is necessary and yea, I know, an ax is not for hammer work.
My suggestion for a saw is to look at the Silky brand. They are not cheap but they're worth it.
If you're looking for info on Mortimer be sure to stop at Betsey's Ole Country Store at the corner of Brown Mtn Beach Rd and Hwy 90. Don't let "Highway" fool you as it's a gravel road like everything else in the immediate area.
