Everyone has monetary concerns and we all look to save anywhere we can. Sometimes thats on our gear. What gear have you cheaped out on that has failed you?
I actually enjoy testing cheap gear. My most recent fail was Odoland 3500 Solo stove. This stove is similar to MSR or Gigapower stoves...
I lreally like Hungry Horse Reservoir in the Flathead Natl forest. Plenty of camps, lots of trails too, but bring a saw. Last year there were a couple blowdowns.
Funny you mention descent control. I also was just there and used my Subaru X Mode for descent control. It worked for about 2 miles down then cut off. I think the brakes got too hot.
It did work great though.
The style/cut of the gazelle tent fly is a no go for me.
Not near enough coverage for the type of rain I am always caught in. SIngle wall tent fabrics sweat and bead- even my Hille sweats and beads.
I would look at a better ground tent like a Big Agnes, MSR or Hilleburg if your spending RTT...
From what I have seen, the soft RTT's are all extremely similar. When you check Alibaba, you can really see there are like 3 or 4 factories making the same tents.
I chose to go with one of the OGs, Tepui, now owned by Thule. It is ok. The pockets that hold the rainfly poles ripped immediatly...
The best table I have ever owned is this collapsable wood roll top table. Its about 30x30, and almost 16 years old. I have replaced several broken plastic parts with parts I 3d printed, and I am about to remake all the slats, because the original ones have been bacon greased and sanded down...
I painted and installed this rack I put together the other day. I dont have access to a welder so I pop riveted some aluminum together to make a mount for my awning. I think it came out great, and its very strong.
I also hung rear pads and I think I hit a personal best of 35 minutes.:grinning: I...
This.
Underserved communities have no idea the "wilderness" exists. Before saying this is hogwash, maybe think about who is hearing the message and who isnt?
I was an Ultralight backpacker in my younger days. I have trained myself to need very little for multiple days. It was never fun though.
I have been slowly adding pieces to my kit, but I can easily slim down for a hunting trip or a quick weekend scout. Typically I only would use my MSR stove, a...
My partner suggested the winch. She said if i hurt my back again pushing out my car, she won't help me home :fearscream:... not exactly the same style of suggestion, but it helps when they are on board.
