Trip to Nemo Tunnel and the MABAT trail back home. Took us thru Antietam Battlefield, very sobering and humbling place. 1200 miles of back roads and forest service roads, some of which were very rough. One 3 mile section took over an hour to crawl thru. Another 13 mile section took over 3 hours...
I'm about an hour south of Buffalo, tiny little town called South Dayton. From what I have found( or rather not found) there are almost no trails and no clubs in WNY. Have to go to PA to find trails or Upstate NY.
I still use my cast iron but if I'm hiking in, I use my cowboy skillets. pressed tin skillets that are about 150 years ago I found in an old barn and cleaned up. They work great for cooking.
Mountain House meals are quick easy meals and great tasting too with very little clean up. Just need heated water. They are freeze dried so no refrigeration needed and very lightweight.
I love open fire cooking, but I'm not going to slave over a fire all day. Unless you are cooking a huge roast and need to slow cook it, it doesn't take long to cook a great meal over a fire.
Mountain House meals are great for quick hot meals and they taste great too with very little clean up. Foil packs are another quick easy meal....chop up whatever you want to eat, wrap it in foil and set it on hot coals, flip it every so often until hot/cooked/ Enjoy with easy clean up also.
