I could, would give up my ice cream to save room. And most of my other junk foods. I would keep the hard candy tho, it's small and gives you a little sweetness when needed. And If needed, I may even give up my Mt Dew...lol
I always keep several different Mountain House meals around for camping. They are very simple to prepare and have great taste too. Even my kids have like them, so they must be good. lol. Lightweight to carry is a plus, and virtually no clean up is also.
Bio safe soap for washing, for cleaning my cast iron I use hot water and a piece of chainmail I found on amazon. It works great at getting the stuck foods out and is what they recommend for cast iron.
yeah, no.....will never pay that kind of price for a disc with a tiny burner that I can make for 1/10 that price. That goes for a lot of the other gear people buy for camping/overlanding too. RTT....hahahah, NO!!! Most of what I am seeing on the youtube videos and elsewhere is known as...
4" or 6" pvc, cap the one end, cap the other with removable end. Install a valestem into it, paint it black, also, install a hose shutoff on it so you can have heated pressurized water that can be used like a shower if needed. If I can find the photos I will add them here.
I also go back and forth between light and dark, but I have also found mixed chili beans...has both plus black beans in chili sauce. But now that I look at the can again, I'm seeing it does have pinto beans in it as well.
As I do prefer to KISS when traveling and camping, I do enjoy a nice meal from time to time. When packing I try to repack things to fit better into my cooler so most store packaging is left at home in the trash.
No pinto beans, thank you. And I prefer to use hot italian sausage for my meat. 1/4c of raw honey is added also. along with chopped onion and green pepper, dash of cinnamon, small dash of cayenne pepper, cilantro, chili beans, diced tomatoes and tomato paste.
I have and use a wide variety of my cast iron when I go out camping, and at home too. It is one of the easiest to clean and maintain, altho it does tend to be very heavy.
I use a propane grill, a charcoal grill, real fire....all depends on where I am and how much time I have. I will say I do prefer the real fire grilling and cooking best...just better taste all around.
Usually my coffee is green and cold in the form of Mt Dew...lol. But when camping I do enjoy a nice warm cup of coffee in the mornings and I make it old world style....percolator over a fire.
My pocket knife is used for everything from sharpening pencils to scraping crap off things to cutting food. Germs are good for the body, builds the immune system. lol
OMG, yes....I can't stand hearing that crap. I almost stopped wearing anything that would give away I was military just so I wouldn't have to hear it. That is one thing that certainly needs to fade away, but like you said it is far better than what was happening in the past.
Not really very portable....yet, but this is how I cook cast iron deep dish wood fired pizza. I have a wide assortment of cast iron I use, dutch ovens, skillets, chicken fryer, griddles, corn bread pan, and an egg fryer(i think).
