Small solar trickle charger? please comment if you have experience w/ this!

Not a bad deal right now for a Renogy 50w flexible panel and controller. Would need a short run of cable but that's easy enough.

10 Meters - Technicians get on the air and get bitten by the HF bug.

ARRL Field Day is the end of June, it's the largest ham radio event of the year and I am sure many clubs in CA will be participating. It's a good time to get hands on with putting up antennas and using radios and getting on HF.

@Christopher Hersey Are you saying this link isn't working?

10 Meters - Technicians get on the air and get bitten by the HF bug.

10 meters has been opening up quite often lately. Today I have Canada, Belize, Scotland, and Germany in the log. Heard Suriname (South America) but he had a heck of a pile up going and I just couldn't break it. Techs, you have access to part of 10m and 10m will only get better as the solar...

    Starting out in DFW, Texas.

Welcome to Overland bound from Oklahoma. @Roots66 and @Coreymol are the Texas Member Reps, feel free to message any of us with questions. @Tom Cole hosted a lot of the Dallas/Ft Worth meet ups last year, hopefully there will be more this year and perhaps someone else can step up to help as well.

    Where to start

Decent looking XJ. Make sure it's mechanically sound and get out there, but use your gray matter and don't exceed your or the vehicle capabilities. Start small and you will figure out what you need or don't need. Get lost, find yourself, and enjoy.

Does it has to be same brand of GMRS radio to communicate?

Family no Friends yes, unless they are using the low power FRS radios (no license) which share frequencies with the higher power GMRS radios.

Unpacked snow was pretty good, hard pack/icy roads left me a little disappointed. I may not have had the air pressure low enough that time and didn't have 4wd. Other reviews say these tires do great on snow and they have the tri-peak rating so I would expect them to be better than what I...

Have 33K on some AT3s and they have been great, even with my lack of rotation they show decent wear. Looking at the tread I see no reason I can't get another 15-20K out of them. I live on dirt roads and during muddy season they had no problems.

    Why Ham over GMRS?

FRS and GMRS share all channels now but those are still handheld and .5 watts so they are essentially FRS but GMRS handhelds are allowed to use 8-14.

    Why Ham over GMRS?

Channels 8-14 are handheld channels only, wish Midland would at least make them able to be monitored.

Help! Where is the Map Legend??

I also do not see a legend, was there something specifically you had a question about?

    Why Ham over GMRS?

The 575, 500, and I believe the 400 do both narrow and wide.

    Mounting your devices.

I used a Ram X-grip for my phone for awhile but disliked the two handed operation it required to mount/dismount, I went with Schoche magnet mounts on DIY brackets. I use one for my phone and two for my 10" tablet. I drive on poor county paved and dirt roads and have never had either fall. Got...

    Static when off

I would try removing the other accessories, personally I would do them one at a time to see if a particular accessory is causing the issue and if so I would look at that accessory specifically. The rain could possibly be part of the issue, getting into a loose connection or into a light housing...

    Static when off

Maybe a ground loop issue? Are both leads wired to the battery? Is anything else on that battery as well?

    Why Ham over GMRS?

Ham is more capable though many (most?) of us run both and most of us are #radionerds.
