Replacement emblem came and made it's way on the GX. (accidentally left the old one on the FJ...I know...a case of CRS disease)

    NF Shooting Range

We have one about 2 1/2 from the house in the Bankhead NF on the edge of the Sipsey Wilderness. Range is out to 200 yards with posts set at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards. (I think) There are 4 or 5 shooting stations with benches and seats on swivels. Not fancy but basic and functional. You can...

What piece of gear made the biggest improvement to your experience?

RTT, and then 2nd would be my RTT when I took it off the roof! And onto my little trailer. Both were game changers.

First camping trip with the GX

3 1/2' x 5'. Has a 2k axle and comes with 12" wheels which I changed to 13". It weighs under 300lbs. Loaded with ActionPackers, RTIC cooler, and RTT it weighs around 500lbs. Other than the wheels, I installed two leveler jacks in the rear, a wheel leveler in the front, welded two bars across the...

First camping trip with the GX

Thanks. Got the awning brackets half installed...will finish Saturday and mount the ARB. Really needed it on the trip and had to use a tarp instead. One step at a time.

First camping trip with the GX

We camped at Brushy Pond on the edge of the Sipsey Wilderness. GX didn't even know the Lowe's trailer was back there.(19.4 mpg towing) It was very cold and wet, but we had plenty of "antifreeze" and a great fire with the Solo Bonfire. Thinking of going from 13" to 15" wheels this spring but need...

    GX first steps...

Relocated the fridge/drawer cabinet from the FJ into the GX470. A little paint and into the GX like a glove. Before, in the FJ. After, in the GX. Now, just got to figure out the lash points to secure it, reinstall the fridge slide and the ARB. Also replaced the Pirelli's that were with it...

Good lookin LC. Great start. You know, it WILL become an obsession.

Help us pick our next rig!

Option E- a Landcruiser/Lexus LX with 3rd row seating, plus a trailer with RTT on it and the LC. A Suburban can do that same setup, but it isn't as robust as the LC offroad.

Day trip- Bull Gap, Talladega National Forest

This Saturday we had a meetup of 5 vehicles from the Alabama Overland group, and my first trip with them. as the day went on I had the opportunity to talk to those folks about Overland Bound. Most said they would check it out. Anyway we met at Bull Gap and routed from TNF 600-1 to 600-2 to...

Any overlanding access challenges during the shutdown?

For instance, are the trails/roads open on BLM land, National Monuments, National recreation areas? Only federal land near me is the Talladega NF and the trails were open this past weekend, both foot and vehicular. Have any of you guys had to alter your overlanding travel plans so far? Impact...

    Lowe's 3x5 trailer

Wouldn't try it as the overhang of the plywood would possibly interfere with your vehicle turning. Lowes has a 4x6 and 4x8 trailer for a few bucks more. Anyway a pic of my 3 1/2 x 5.

    Truck Bed Tent?

Try finding a used aluminum camper cap for your truck. Bel-Air in Cal. makes new ones that start at $549. With a camper shell you still can use your pickup bed during the week and on weekends just throw a Thermarest and sleeping bag in the back. My 1st truck was a 1974 Toyota HiLux with a...

Change in direction to Lexus GX470

I'd just gotten the FJ about where I wanted it, but...towing my trailer was marginal, at best. I felt that the FJ was gutting it out to pull the Winnebago Drop and it really needed a V8 to do a proper job. I considered a crew cab F150 and Tundra, both of which would've been more than adequate...

Just in time for cold weather

First fire. Four pieces of fire wood. We let it burn down to a bed of coals and grilled some steaks and fish fillets. I'm definitely a happy camper.

    Outback Adventure Trailgater for JK

Jerry James. A different solution and keep your Trailgater. Get a 4 to 6' propane hose and connect to a 5lb small bulk tank sitting on the ground or back of your JK, and use your existing stove. Or a One Burner stove with the 1lb cylinder.
