2013 FJ Cruiser pulling a Teardrops NW Recon

The Tekonsha P3 is on sale at Camping World for $139 and Tekonsha Primus IQ is $80. Also any auto repair shop can install a transmission cooler. You can get by without one short term, but if you plan on keeping the FJCRUISER it will lessen the wear.

suggestions for a trailer/rtt set up

Something ready to go...think more like a Teardrop trailer. (says the one who has a trailer/RTT combo) But if you want to really go all out look at a Turtleback trailer and a 23Zero or EeziAwn for RTT's.

    Camping gear list...

Viking...camping for us in Alabama is October thru early May. Insects and snakes not really a problem. Summer camping in Alabama? Think Winnebago in a KOA. Summer's when we make our cross country trips to the high country in Colorado where snakes ain't never a problem, but skeeters can...

    Camping gear list...

Give tarp camping some consideration...simple and cheap. An 8'x10' costs as little as $10 at Wally World. Also, look at the new backpacking quilts vs. the traditional sleeping bag. Love my down quilt. DO NOT cheap out on mats...a Thermarest at a minimum. Good Will Store or garage sales are 2...

    Canyonlands NP

WOW just WOW. Moar! Reminds me of my 1st camping trip to Utah back in the '70s. Wife and I spent 5 weeks exploring Canyonlands, Dead Horse State Park, Arches, Bryce, Zion and points in between. To date our best trip out west. Wish I still had my '74 Toyota HiLux. I was too young and stupid...

    Gerber StrongArm fixed blade

I've had my StrongArm for 4 years now and during that time it has become my go-to backpacking and camp knife. Now my Cold Steel and Falkniven fixed blades just languish in my desk. I can hear the comments already..."but it's a Gerber". Yeah that's right, but a darn tough Made in USA Gerber. It...

2013 FJ Cruiser pulling a Teardrops NW Recon

Had an FJ and pulled a 2800 lb Winnebago Drop trailer (19') with it. Towed with a weight distribution/anti swaybar hitch and electric brake controller. They worked well and suspension wise I upgraded to a TRD suspension (basically Bilsteins) and was fine between them and the WD Hitch. I added a...

    New kitchen doober

Had a 1 ltr kettle but it was always a few ounces shy of a full pot for drip coffee. And always had to boil a second pot to make oatmeal. So, we got the 1.8 ltr GSI Halulite Kettle and now it'll be a 1pot boil for breakfast. You can fit a 280g isobutane canister and Pocket Rocket stove for...

Can’t Decide - Trailer, RTT or Ground Tent?

I put together a small trailer with a RTT mounted on it and the Action Packers geared up and kept on the trailer, ready at a moments notice. It was not a huge investment with the Smittibilt RTT on sale for $750 and the Lowes trailer on sale for $400. A well built Oz tent by itself would run...

    Alabama members

Living in Chelsea. Love going to the Talladega NF and the Bankhead NF. Also, the Little River Canyon/DeSoto Falls area. What area are you in? Suggestion. Let's invite the Alabama Overland FB Group to join us for this event, so we can recruit some of those guys.

    Mardi Krawl 2019

Just got back from this year's Mardi Krawl at Hawk Pride Mtn in north Alabama. Louisiana Land Krewsers did an excellent job once again. Much improved weather from last years Krawl and guessing around a 100 folks.

    Escaped in a escape!

Raul...love your attitude. Made me think of one of my favorite trips to Colorado. Took my daily driver and did a 2 week trip to the San Juans and did the Alpine Skyway...in a Gen I Honda CRV with All Wheel Drive. Were we able to go everywhere? No, but we made 90% of the trails on our list...

    Sierra Designs Whitney DriDown Hoodie

Just got in on a Mass Drop group buy on this jacket, with a normal retail of $169 and group buy for $80. Total weight 19oz with 800 fill down. On first look fit and finish is on par with North Face and Patagonia. Reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and I think this was MassDrop's 3rd group...

Just in time for Mardi Krawl

Rago brackets and ARB Awning finally installed on the GX. With only a 20% chance of rain, after last years deluge at MK, I was taking no chances and made sure the ARB was ready for action. Hopefully it will remain undeployed...BUT just in case, ya know what I mean. By the way, The Rago mounts...

    NF Shooting Range

Love my 19x, but never warmed up to the single stack Glocks. They just didn't fit my hand. Bought a Walther PPS with extended mag and it's just right.

    Windbreakers

MotoBoss. Had an Aerostitch GoreTex riding jacket(same color as your shirt) that lasted over 20 years. They make some great stuff. Thanks for the headsup.

    RTT condensation mats

There is...an $8 sheet of 4x8x1 Dow styrofoam insulation(Blue Board). Install the Dow directly on top of the RTT deck and place your mattress on top of the Dow. Condensation problem fixed. Added benefit is your tent is much warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

    Windbreakers

Windbreakers are an outdoor item that has just about disappeared in recent years. Good ones are hard to come by, but their usefulness hasn't been replaced with fleece and down. Sometimes you just need something to tame the chill in the air, or to keep "the hawk" from kickin arse. Well here...

    My jeep and trailer.

Albaro...outstanding looking trailer. Details please, and some more pictures. Size, weight, dimensions, suspension...that sort of stuff. Inquiring minds want to know.

    Cooper AT3 4S

The AT3's have been on my GX for a month now, and have 2800 miles on them. Useage: 1. daily commutes, 2. 500 mile interstate run in a driving rain storm, 3. 300 mile run to the Bankhead NF with about 40 miles on NF roads and two-track, very sloppy, while towing a trailer, and 4. one day of...
