Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

So there are kind of a few different scenarios being discussed I think. Let's say that you're going hiking. You drive to the trail head and set out from there on foot. I agree. Never leave food in an unattended vehicle. Let's say that you're overlanding in your Skookum little rig with an rtt...

Entertaining video. And a example of why you shouldn't put food in a tent... Fabric isn't a great deterrent. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

2013 Tundra "Clifford" Build & Adventures

The geographic center of Alberta is north of Fort Assiniboine, AB 23km give or take, and 3 km or so west into the bush off the Grizzly Highway. I had heard that there's a plaque, and it's not easy to get to in a truck... Sounds like fun to me. I know it's pretty muddy in the summer so I figured...

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

The only 100% effective solution is staying home. And where's the fun in that? It's just risk mitigation really. Keep food as sealed as we can and take practical precautions. There will always be smells and trace but if we minimize the risks we should be ok. I've only had 3 bear encounters in...

I think they look for anything that says "bear proof" on it and open those first.

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

That's a nice daytime setup while you're in camp. Looks good. At night of course, I'd suggest you slide the food boxes/coolers and anything cooking related into the car for safety.

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

That's exactly my configuration. Rtt above the truck bed. Don't put the cooler or anything food related under the truck (it's fine while you're in camp). Put it either in the bed of the truck or in the cab. I put mine in the bed for convenience.

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

Very safe to leave the food in vehicle. Having said that precautions still need to be made. Seal food in the cooler, in bags and dry boxes etc. Don't leave a dirty camp. Don't dump your food leavings around camp and don't dump dish soap, toothpaste etc close to sleeping quarters and they'll...

    Alaska/BC bound

I'll be in Kelowna, BC a couple of times this summer visiting my brother. You can run some single track with us July 8/9, or run the whipsaw trail with us on Aug 12/13. I'll be doing the Whipsaw in my Tundra with a few Jeeps. They like to make me lead. I like to think it's because of my...
