Sorry to hear about your Jeep but glad you’re ok to look for another.
Subaru’s definitely have their limitations but they still do soooo many things so well. Surprisingly well to most. I have a modded current gen Outback but I love the new Forester. Based on Subaru’s approach to things lately...
However you intend you plumb it in I'd recommend incorporating some form of thermostatic control and if you deal with cold weather it's not a bad idea to retain the factory cooler/warmer. Go with either a fluid control thermostat or a cooler like B&M with a stacked plate design. The latter has...
So just to be clear for those of you that don’t know it isn’t necessarily the heat itself that kills transmissions. It’s what the heat does to the transmission fluid that’s the problem and it’s not something limited to Subaru CVTs. It’s long been an issue with automatics/magical...
Aftermarket would be my first choice @Baipin. Depending on how you intend to plumb it in you'll want to look at the different styles to determine what best suits your climate or intended climate.
Well... you should be a little worried about taking care of your axles haha. The only axles you...
The added stress generates more heat so manage the added heat. There are more and more of us out there every day proving Subarus aren’t fragile. Want to extend the life of the axles? Don’t attempt to do donuts in the snow or play in the mud where the front wheels are near or at lock and the revs...
Larger AT tires essentially change the gearing and they’re also typically much heavier so yes they add stress to the entire drivetrain. Then you factor in the lift and the additional effort it takes to turn axles at a less than favorable angle...
All that said Subaru has apparently been great...
Well here’s a couple firsts for me. An issue with Rallitek and Subtle Solutions to the rescue haha. About all Subtle is known for in the community is selling parts whether you need them or not. What did Rallitek say about your issue? Did you verify the part numbers on the springs? Did you know...
Some dealerships will warranty ANYTHING and others will try to deny a claim if you’ve made ANY changes to the car. We all wish we could deal with the first but ultimately they have to explain how the changes you’ve made caused something to fail.
Unless you plan to run heavy all the time I’d...
I find that the damper is usually the limiting factor and the reason they have internal bump stops. The spaced coil will recoup what was lost on flat ground but to me being undersprung will still be sacrificing clearance in weight transferring situations. Up or down steep grades for example. I...
I’m sorry that you feel there was more to this than there is @Lindenwood. At no point did I imagine that anyone else would have been offended, I know I was not. Without getting mired the main point we disagree on is that you’re apparently ok with sacrificing suspension travel and what can happen...
Haha ok @Lindenwood. Still not simple enough apparently. Ok so my 20+ years of motorsports experience disagree with you. More importantly my personal experience with a similar platform disagree with you but good luck with whatever you go with.
BTW I’d be willing to bet the TRD springs are...
I agree with you on progressive springs and the options vs trial/error. One I didn’t get to because I’m trying to cover the basics of spring rates and the other is the reason I looked at this post in the first place. The OP and I may not drive the same vehicle but they’re more similar than not...
You’re still basing your argument on running too high of a spring rate. Let me break this down simply because there’s a reason they make and sell so many different spring options for so many different vehicles. Also when I say springs I mean actual springs..
Your vehicle was engineered by...
The whole point of adding higher spring rate springs is because of added weight. Your situation is an ideal one for springs and you don't simply lose 'flex' but if you did the spring rate is too high. I routinely speak to fellow Subaru owners who say the same thing and don't understand that. I...
I don't recommend spacers to address a sag (spring) issue. They would make it look right but your suspension travel is still lessened. Toyota is releasing a 2020 Rav4 TRD and one of the changes is springs. Not sure when you'd be able to hit up the parts catalog.
Thanks again. I’m sure I’ve said it before but it obviously has its limitations and anything you do to mitigate those limitations will adversely affect the reliability. For example at 65k I currently have a passenger front axle starting to go bad and a driver front strut mount. I’m lifted higher...
