Nissan FS vs Toyota FS why is Toyota preferred?

So, one of the other reasons I am leaving Nissan at some point, they absolutely never stand behind their product unless forced to. I have a Q60 that at some point will develop a "sticky dash". This has happened to MANY MANY Lexus and Toyotas also. Toyota has so far fixed most of those cars...

Nissan FS vs Toyota FS why is Toyota preferred?

I currently own a 2007 Titan 4x4 with a HLSD rear diff, Bilstein 5100's and BFG KO2's. I have never had a problem off road, and I have owned the truck for over 10 years now and I like to joke that it "is as reliable as a Camry". However, she is getting old, and the new truck bug is gnawing on...

Help! Do I need a truck?

Here's what I was talking about: What I learned about Thule Truck Cap Tracks It can happen to cars or fiberglass toppers that have t-rails installed. It's a problem that can occur if you use Thule's drop-in hardware (which I have)

Help! Do I need a truck?

I bet! Most stories I have heard about roof racks being ripped off involve 2 things: High crosswinds at the time and Thule's drop-in T-nuts. The drop-in T-nuts can be torn out of the T-rail installed on most canopy shells and vehicles with pre-installed rails.

Help! Do I need a truck?

What I've seen regarding this may come down to user/installer error. YMMV if you install everything correctly, we see lots of kayaks/canoes on vehicle roofs.

Help! Do I need a truck?

I looked over the documentation of my Leer 100XQ. It has built-in Thule rails. Leer states the load capacity for one style of Thule attachment accessory is 150 pounds. The other style is 260 pounds. I believe one of them is called "TK1" or something. Doesn't matter because both have been...

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

I just checked, Chili Mac seems to still be listed on their website, however they are sold out of everything currently. I guess people think MH will save them from Covid!

Help! Do I need a truck?

I gotta give you small car guys kudos. I was loading up my truck at Home Depot last week, when a couple pushed 2 of those big carts past me to a 2018-ish Honda Civic COUPE parked next to me. I'm telling you these 2 carts were FULL of every kind of thing, a wall mirror, mulch, tools, plants...

Help! Do I need a truck?

I remember the camping trip when we decided we were going to start staying in the truck. One year it seemed it rained every time we went camping. There was a guy next to us, Ford Ranger, little bed in back for him and his dog. It looked like such a better way to go than having a tent, when he...

Help! Do I need a truck?

They are. I bought mine used on CL for $300. I was super lucky because my truck is rare (all Titans are "rare" compared to the Big 3) and it was the right color. I think the original price was around $2K in 2006 for the original owner! Mine has all of the upgrades: Thule T rails, flush mounted...

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

2 years later, how is the Davy Crockett holding up? I have been very intrigued by it, very affordable on Amazon right now (under $300) my friends have the 120VAC versions and they have mixed experiences, some of the GMG have failed, some are running like champs. And as for the Mountain...

Help! Do I need a truck?

Depends. Many truck caps can be ordered pre-configured for roof racks, which will distribute the load. My Leer 100XQ was ordered with Thule T-rails, which means the cap is load rated. If you just bolt 4 mounting points to the average fiberglass cap, the load capacity can be as low as 150 pounds...

I really like the cargo rack on camper idea!

Help! Do I need a truck?

I went from a mid-size SUV to a FS 1/2t truck. I even considered going back to a FS SUV at one point. We also have small car daily drivers. Here's my input pro-FS truck: -I bought a Nissan Titan with seating for 6. We needed it because we have a boat and the boat capacity is also 6 people...

    Trailer electricity question

Nope, not hijacked, just reaffirming the advice to properly charge your batteries.

    Trailer electricity question

Very nice setups! The Renogy probably runs perfectly. Years ago I wired up my 19' boat with dual batteries (flooded lead acid and a USA-made blue-top Optima) and VSR and ACR. For the wiring I went one size higher on every calculation, if it called for 6AWG, I used 4AWG. I did this because I...

    Trailer electricity question

You are totally correct! I will point out a few things about wire ampacity: -Wire ampacity can be stated in regard to temperature rise (basically, the wire won't become unsafe and burn) -Wire ampacity can be stated in regard to voltage drop. So, you may find on the interwebs, many definitions...

    Trailer electricity question

If the trailer battery is just wired directly to the 7 pin, it is not being charged sufficiently. Connecting the trailer to 120VAC for charging when not in use will suffice for short trips, but when doing long duration overland trips it would be beneficial to run a DC-DC boost inverter for...

    Trailer electricity question

Roy, I want to add this: https://www.etrailer.com/question-238830.html They mention that the available power to a trailer isn't enough for much over a 5aH battery. He states that you need to use a specific battery charger should you want to use your 7 pin to charge a battery (it's at the bottom...

    Trailer electricity question

I have a 2007 Nissan Titan. I would guess that any FS truck or SUV (with an OEM tow package) would have the same 30A capacity. A few years back I did look at the wire harness under the truck to the 7pin, and if I had to guess I'd say the wire that I suppose would be pin 4 appeared to be about...
