    Truck Toppers: ARE vs. Leer

There's a thread over on the coloradofans forum titled "Caps" that has several pages of pictures of different caps on the 2nd gen Colorado/Canyon. The predominant 2 are ARE and Leer. I went with the Leer 100XL and haven't regretted it. -Curtiss

    DC to DC Charger

Here's a shot of the installed charger. Not very good but it is tucked into my battery compartment and not in a very good place to take a pic off. As far as wiring goes the charge wire from my tow vehicle provides the input. The output goes directly to the battery (fused at the battery)...

Small cheap roof rack storage box

So, I searched high and low for a low profile storage solution for my roof rack. The best solution I found was the Stealth Toolbox by Gobi. However, after waiting 3 months and completely unresponsive customer service I cancelled my order. What I ended up with was an old safe deposit box...

    Biggest fear on the trail????

Idiot drivers on narrow roads with blind curves. As careful as I am, there are just people out there who don't think. Snow, mud, sand and other trail conditions can be a concern but I have yet to come across any of those I couldn't overcome with a little ingenuity. A head on with some dumb...

What is your most versatile, cross-over type gear?

I have a long duffle/cargo bag that holds my chairs(3 full chairs, 4 foldup stools), roll up aluminum dinner table, small "side" style tables, a folding lantern post and a folding trash container. There may be a couple of other odds and ends in there. Since it's in a bag I move it from my...

    Overland Expo West 2018

The Expo is held at the Air Forces old Fort Tuthill which is now a recreation area just south of Flagstaff. The camping sights with fire rings, a small hotel, cabins, A-frames and yurts are operated independently of the Expo. However, I believe the Expo reserves a significant amount, if not...

What do you consider a "trail?"

I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I pulled up an actual Forest Service map for an area I am very familiar with. Sure enough, there are forest roads and trails marked on the map. Seeing as I have actually run quite a few of the forest roads and trails on this map I can readily say...

    State Licensing

This is a completely foreign concept to me. If you are from a state that doesn't require this but requires some type temporary license in your state please mention this too. -Curtiss

What do you consider a "trail?"

Honestly I would say that person doesn't have much experience with forest roads. Some of the roughest "trails" I have been on have been forest roads that haven't been maintained. I hope he isn't one of those guys that sees a pair of tracks where someone else has gone and decides that's a...

    which of the 3 racks

I might suggest you look at one more option. The Garvin Wilderness racks have been around for many years. They have an enormous number of accessories for their racks and they are well built. -Curtiss

Air filters - paper vs reusable

It used to be that the factory air filters were too small and the surface area of the filter itself was too restrictive. From what I have seen that has changed significantly (except for my wife's 2016 Terrain that has the same engine as my truck but a filter 1/3 the size). Less restrictive...

Off road maps on GM 8" nav - Solved!

I have a 2016 GMC Canyon and I've been hunting for a solution to this also. Thus far I've found nothing. Apparently Google is keeping Android Auto functionality and certification limited currently. I have no doubt eventually one of the app developers will provide off road nav via Android Auto...

    Airing down.

I air my Nitto Terra Grapplers down to 25 psi from the recommended 35 psi on the pavement. I know many people go lower and I wouldn't hesitate to go down to 20 psi but haven't had any issues at 25 psi thus far (and thus far is 30+ years of off roading in the AZ desert). -Curtiss

Off road camper parts and upgrades

I like the stainless towel hooks with 3M tape. Great for hanging all kinds of stuff besides towels. -Curtiss

What goes on TOP and what goes INSIDE??

Most of the time it's just me + 1. If it's me and the boy (he's 11 now) it's just the truck. I sleep under the cap, he sleeps in the back seat. When it's all 3 of us the trailer comes along for obvious reasons. The point of this post was to point out keeping your CG low and your wind...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

That life looks perfect on that Jeep and I love the roof rack. -Curtiss

What goes on TOP and what goes INSIDE??

My rack is primarily used for vehicle related liquids (Rotopax for fuel and a small case for oils in their original sealed containers), a low profile toolbox for recovery gear (straps, D-rings, snatch blocks, etc) and mounts on the rack for a shovel and axe. I keep everything as low profile as...

    DC to DC Charger

    Solar panel for off-grid camping

ACOPower now offers a 120 watt panel for just a little more. That's the one I would go for at this point. -Curtiss

Road Shower 2 Five-Gallon Pressurized Solar Shower Review

The Roadshower 4 is a monster. I love it. I did modify my Roadshower 2 with a hard plumbed line from my air tank to the road shower as someone else in this thread did (great idea, thanks!). Much happier with the setup now. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a 4, but, as of now the 2 does the job...
