    Overland Expo 2018 "Condensed Camping"

I "dispersed camped" at the Overland Expo 2018 (nothing dispersed about it). I did my simplest setup since it was just my son and I. No need to setup the large awning with the dining table, side changing room or shower/porta potty tent. Here's a pic of what is probably my simplest...

Who's all going to Overland Expo West 2018?

I hear ya. After attending the expo I came up with some more modifications for my trailer also. Little things, but every little thing makes things just a little better. Same exact thing happened last year after I went. The original manufacturer had some new things I'll be incorporating and I...

    Rodents in engine bay

Chipmunks here. I couple of years ago while camping I needed to charge up the battery on the tent trailer. The standard trailer line wasn't long enough when the tent trailer is setup so I usually use a pair of jumper cables to charge up the trailer battery. Popped the hood on the truck and...

FOR SALE Overland Expo (Fort Tuthill, AZ) - Overlanding Gear - Pickup at Expo

No takers on any of this gear? I'm only bringing the Snomaster CL56D to chill extra beer and for ice. Everything else will stay down here in Phoenix if there are no interested parties. -Curtiss

Folding Panel, Mohoo vs. AcoPower - any experiences?

I own the ACO 105W unit. It's a decent package and there are bypass diodes so that if part of the panel is shaded it doesn't drop power output to zero like panels with the diodes do. I use it to charge the battery on my trailer which runs LED lighting, a roof vent fan and a fridge. As long as...

Who's all going to Overland Expo West 2018?

My son is an extremely mature 11 year old and might be able to wrangle in some of the younger attendees. No guarantees here. He may just want to sit in camp and listen to some of dad's audio books. -Curtiss

    Locking Hitch Pins

You just gave me an idea. What about a hitch pin that is threaded and takes a locking lug nut? Talk about super simple and probably fairly cheap to manufacture. -Curtiss

Who's all going to Overland Expo West 2018?

Anyone else bringing their kids to the Expo? I'll have my 11 year old son in tow and it would be great if there were other kids for him to hang out with. -Curtiss

    Locking Hitch Pins

Yep, its all about being less attractive target. For example, my new setup would be most vulnerable to a pipe wrench being used to twist the locks off. I have yet to see any but the most expensive locks hold up against a large pipe wrench. But at least that's a tool that costs some money and...

    Locking Hitch Pins

You slip the pipe over the lock side and pull. Mine snapped immediately. For the hitch pins that look more like a hammer (lock perpendicular to the pin) you slip it over the side the key goes on and rock it back and forth. Takes a little longer but ends up snapping off also. Go search...

    Locking Hitch Pins

I've seen the other thread here about trailer security. I do most of the things in that thread when I'm setup at camp (wheel boot, remove my max coupler, chain through the wheels, etc). Lately I've been obsessing with locking hitch pins, of which I own 4 (truck receiver, Max Coupler pivot, Max...

How to make a killer fire kit

This is a great kit! I put together something similar. One thing I did do differently was pack cotton balls into the empty spaces in my kit as additional kindling. I did not think of a chemical reaction using basic chemicals which are also quite compact. I'll be adding that little gem. I...

Mojave (or otherwise) pinstripes - what do you do??

We call that AZ pinstriping because these desert plants (trees, bushes and cacti) all have sharp thorns. Best defense is a white vehicle (all my off roaders from my '66 Jeep to my '16 GMC Canyon have been white). Short of that, a good coat of wax helps. Rubbing compound buffs out the minor...
