I have been seeing videos on YouTube of people out on the trail setting up small solar systems when they park. I looks to me like there is a lot of misunderstanding of how much power is produced by a solar panel. I found this article very informative. The author also covers things that effect...
Glad to see you got away with 32” tires. This week I am replacing my 29”s (18” wheels) and the Toyo only offers 30” or 32” in the AT3. I am a bit worried about towing my boat with the taller tires.
I was curious so I googled his name, pretty accomplished guy. Lives in Montana. Writes and edits for some very big magazines. I share his wonder about overlanding being a fad. Part of me hopes it is not because I think getting out and exploring does our minds and bodies a lot of good, I know...
I did read the article. I do own a RRT and made the decision, as he points out, to sacrifice gas mileage. I am glad he points that out to someone who hasn’t bought of it. I understand that those of us (like me) who have lifted our vehicles, added roof racks and lights are not that concerned...
Very disappointed to see Overland Bound members name calling. I thought we were better than that. This is a guy pointing out the disadvantages of a RRT. He disagrees with you. For that he gets called names? I joined this organization back when Michael and Corrie (two of the nicest people I...
I used 2” sq tubing .06” wall everywhere but the main “T” where I used .125” wall. I went with torsion bar axles so there wouldn’t have trouble with the solid axle hanging up on rocks and I built a full swivel hitch that allows the trailer full rotation in all directions.
I agree with the 1 1/2” to 2” suggestions but you can thin walled to keep your weight down. I used .06” wall on my trailer everywhere but the main “T” where I used .125”.
Good to see other people enjoying their Discoverys. They are great off road vehicles. I am always impressed by the drivetrain. Too bad LR messed up with the motor trying to meet US emission standards.
Here is my G4. I put a top hat motor in it about three years ago. The water temperature...
Smoked paprika....I discovered it when I needed it for a recipe called for it and I have been putting it on almost everything. We have salt for guests but we rarely use it ourselves. We stopped putting it in our food except for a few things ( like potatoes) and we fine fast food way too salty.
Thank you for your input and added ideas Scott. Maybe you and Michael could make a YouTube video helping to point out what to look for. I carry a stupid amount of “field repair” items including a spare water pump, starter and alternator. I realize most overlanders are not mechanics but...
Recently I was on at an OB event. People had driven hundreds of miles the day before, some crossed several states to get there. Saturday morning arrived and we were getting ready for a trail run and I didn’t see anyone open their hood to check fluids and give the engine bay a general overlook...
Ok! This thread has been very interesting. Thank you to everyone who has commented. We use FRS or CB when we travel. It has been my experience that both are only good for a mile or two as long as there are no obstacles. I can not get everyone in our group into HAM licenses so it looks like...
My wife and I are interested. We only have a weekend so it would not be enough time for us to do the Mohave Trail but we love that area. Keep us in the loop. Thanks
I built my trailer a few years ago and it has given us hundreds of trouble free off-road miles. I equipped ours with swing axles to eliminate the chance of a solid axle hanging up on a rock and built a full swivel hitch. The only thing is can add, if you are climbing a soft sand hill and you...
This is a tough one for me. I am in the market for a wench (my wife says we need one). I have been exploring off road for about a million years and I have only REALLY needed a wench one time in the snow when my vehicle slide off the road. I don’t like to admit this but the “Badlands” name...
