Here we go again , yet another vehicle 2012 frontier pro4x

Yeah with the (lack of) aero with an Xterra the MPG really drops off with higher speeds. Going from the Bay Area to Vegas has a lot of high speed limits and you really need to go 80ish jump to keep up with traffic. At 70 MPH it does way better. -TJ

    .

I'll admit I didn't read every word of the thread, so forgive me if you covered this: did you do the killer-dowel-pin fix on the 12V? FWIW my Full Size adventure rig is later (2011) and diesel and I love it... -TJ

Here we go again , yet another vehicle 2012 frontier pro4x

Winch setup came out great. Overall awesome progress, and I'm jealous of your MPG. Running a bit faster, 80-82 MPH to/from Vegas from the Bay Area I only get around 17.5 in my Xterra. -TJ

Gear on outside vehicle while on highway

Right!?! Though, in my case I really didn't want stuff like the axe, shovel and chainsaw inside the cab or inside the FWC. You wouldn't think it, but a FWC and pickup actually leaves you with very little storage for "dirty" things. -TJ

I leave it... but all of my outside gear is on the back of the rig: -TJ

US West East Bay - Anza Borego Trip

I had a trip planned for next weekend, but with weather and such it looks like it's not happening. I'm thinking about joining for this trip if I can shift my days off, and if that's alright w/ the group. I'd be coming from Vegas so I'd just meet at the first night's camp spot, or wherever you...

Gotcha. I wasn't aware of the reputation/track record on them. Sounds like the right move! -TJ

    What I love about overlanding

I suppose Overlanding is the counter-point to the rest of my life, and my prior hobbies. I work in tech, I live in Las Vegas but often work in the Silicon Valley. I've raced cars in the past (hence the screen-name) and am/was very big into Glamis and crazy sand rails, big RVs, etc. etc...

Third try - now a Bison!

Very interesting you got rid of the DSSV shocks. What was the motivation? Original shocks worn out and ridiculously expensive to replace? -TJ

Cooking on a propane ammo can camp fire thing

I'm still not sure we're on the same page... when you say holes on the "bottom" do you mean of the ammo can? That's not what I'm talking about or how most burners meant for cooking work. Those generally allow air to enter the orifice tube/burner and mix the air and fuel before being ignited. My...

Cooking on a propane ammo can camp fire thing

I'm guessing they design them for taller, red/orange flames which will be a rich mixture. I don't think extra air post-orafice-tube will do a ton, you need more oxygen in the actual mixture. If you look at burners meant for cooking they generally draw air into the burners. -TJ

Cooking on a propane ammo can camp fire thing

I have one, and like most it has a regulator at the bottle hookup so you're good there. It burns pretty darn sooty though. -TJ

Going back to a Full Size for my Overlanding

So, we failed to get vid of the technical section on Lime Kiln (I handed my buddy my cam, he wasn't familiar w/ the controls) but this was it (as always, pics don't really do it justice): The truck walked right through it, no issues: Another interesting spot, but none of these required...

    Perfectly Level?

I just eye-ball it before I pop the FWC up. Once I'm inside I can really "feel" if it needs fine-tuning and I'll use the air-bags on the truck (rear-only, but setup to be controllable individually). Still, I'm just going for "good 'nough". -TJ
