Where to put pens, pencils, etc in the rig - just a little DIY tinkering

Mine are in the glove box rattling around or in the zippered pouch with vehicle’s paperwork. I don’t wanna stab myself in the eye

    Portable heater

I’ll 2nd the Little Buddy suggestion. We use ours quite often and it does a great job. We set it up down below in the annex of our RTT and we stay toasty warm, even when the temps get down to 11f.

    Rude Overland Vehicle Etiquette

Ha! Metro NY drivers, ( DC - Boston; it’s all one big city along the I-95 corridor ) are the worst drivers, By far.

    Overloaded

Here is a really good article pointing out why it just isn’t a good thing to be constantly over loaded. Broken Ram 3500 Dually Shows a Camper Can Still Overload a Big Truck

Is anybody actually getting out ? (Edit)

I used to post up trip reports on various forums, here, expo, mud, YouTube, F/B etc, and even had a couple of stories published along with photos in hobby magazines. I was easily clicking the shutter a thousand times during a 3-6 week trip. I even had a very small fan base. In the 3-4 years I...

    Rude Overland Vehicle Etiquette

Oh jeeze; you just had to get me started on people that are so easily offended.. Nah; no time for em, I gave up, if they are so easily offended they can find their own little campsite to be all by themselves so as not to be offended. Happy New Year to all. Peace out.

    Rude Overland Vehicle Etiquette

Unfortunately, yes you are. There are lots of people that would be joyful to close down our access to public lands and make the vehicles we drive so strictly regulated making any modifications illegal. All they need is an excuse to justify their negative stereotypical opinions of our...

    Rude Overland Vehicle Etiquette

Unfortunately you experienced something that goes on every day in every city all across ‘Merica. Karma will get them, it always does. Not only do they pay the price in premature wear of brakes, tires, steering & suspension components, they will have an accident. Interestingly enough, people...

    Boondocking with Chevy Colorado

Ya, not sure what this discussion is about. The Colorado is a formidable overlanding vehicle with surprising trail prowess.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sadly we were in South Carolina. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great time with our daughters and husband & grandkids. Sadly, because we missed one of the coldest Christmases on record here at home. My BILA & I have yet to exchange gifts but we always get one another things for our trucks or camp.

    Dispersed Camping

Northern penninsula of Michigan is supposed to be pretty nice with a moderate selection of dispersed camping sites. Some state forests in Pennsylvania have dispersed “permit” camping as well. Some think the Allegheny National Forest is a good place to explore. I was there decades ago and was...

Poll: When you camp, do you normally have cell service?

Yes, exactly; leaving the rat race and all its entrapments far behind, only connecting with what is important. I do have a hobby room in the basement that lacks any adult supervision but it isn't all that important.

How to tick-off a trail leader

I don’t care for large groups at all. Over the past few years I’ve settled on no more than 6 vehicles and that includes me. I’ve only ever encountered one whiner. The other thing I’ve noticed, some people think these tours are “ all about the kids” or “ making memories”. Making memories...

    Front hitch Tacoma

Continue building my Honda Element or find a Tacoma or 4Runner?

I had an old boss teach me that you always get something, anything, bigger and more capable than what you think you need. Another bit of unsolicited advice, as I know more than a few people will disagree, body on frame vehicles can take the beating. Unibody? Not so much. It will reach a...

Rookie trying to get in the game

Not to burst your bubble but you’re not going to get reliable for 6K, unless you are ready to dump another 4-6K into it. Even as reliable as Toyotas are, and they are, provided you baseline it and realize that major repairs can be avoided by doing major preventative maintenance, will still...
