    2018 tacoma

When I put my small RTT (Tepui Ayer 2 @ 97lbs) on my bed, I started to see spread. It was making it hard to get my tailgate to work properly. I put stiffeners on, the spread is gone, and the gate is great. Could just be my setup, though.

    Help Identify Trailer

The GI T3 did not have the stake pockets yours does, either. Still, this baby is totally worth restoring. Epic!

    Help Identify Trailer

I think it’s a post-war civilian Bantam T3-C. I’ve heard that the GI versions had no tailgate and 4 tie-down hooks along the sides.

    Help Identify Trailer

Looks like a version of the M416 1/4 ton military trailer pulled by jeeps from WWII to after Viêt Nam. The tongue stand, tub marks, and general shape are consistent. If that’s the case - especially if you can find a data plate or other GI markings, it’s definitely worth saving and restoring.

    Storing eggs

Totally correct. An unwashed farm fresh egg will keep for at least 10 days without refrigeration. I raise chickens for eggs and we’ve left fresh eggs out on the counter for more than 2 weeks without problems.

Just started, got the car, a little money, and a lot of ideas

It's all been said, here. 1. Get the car, a cooler of food, a few blankets, and go out for a night. 2. Evaluate what you took and how it performed. 3. Evaluate what you didn't take and how it could have made things better. 4. Evaluate what you took and didn't use, and ask if you need it on...

A couple of Campsite cooking Hacks

Just got back from 3 days and 2 nights in Grand Teton National Park. A couple of things worked really well for meals for 8 of us. 1. Scrambled Potatoes - 2 lbs. frozen hash browns (2 lbs. of cold baked potatoes, shredded, would have worked just fine) - 1 lb. fresh bacon, chopped - 1 lb...

    El Camino Del Diablo (Arizona)

I drove this the last weekend of April 2023 and had a great time. The trail is easy (high clearance needed; 4WD optional if you have a buddy to pull you out if stuck) and not long - probably a 7-8 hour drive straight through. Taking 2 or 3 days to do the road allows for plenty of side drives...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

You’re right on. All the gear won’t help if you’re not okay with waking up to the cold, being just a little dusty all the time, finding ‘things’ in your food, and being just a little lonely. There are a lot of ‘nice to haves’; but really only a small list of ‘must haves’ that you can buy for...

Basic Overland Toolkit Contents For Beginners?

I completely agree with those who've said that they carry just the tools that fit their rig. My personal exception is that I carry deep sockets in common lug nut sizes, as well as a handful of oddball lug nuts that don't fit my rig, but might fit someone else's. Tools can get heavy and weight...

Poll: When you camp, do you normally have cell service?

Great question! Last summer I had open heart surgery. That made my medical needs different than they ever had been before. Cell service is spotty here in the Desert West, but there are some things that can help overcome those limitations. Now, when I drive and camp, There's a little more...
