    Overlanding with an EV

Ultimately, as in all things "Overlanding", it comes down to one's definition. After 7 years driving 100K miles through 17 countries... less is more. There is a reason that the old school fully mechanical vehicles are highly sought after. Most full-time overlanders even gripe about having...

    Overlanding with an EV

Bing, bing, bing...we have a winner. If one were to spend time listening to what political and economic "leaders" have been saying for over a decade it is obvious what the long game is. I can't wait for a public emergency where all EVs are disabled to limit congestion to assist "responders" (for...

We are driving around the world. Right now.

The 8B was one of our favorites, we ended up pirate camping next to a river about an hour past the museum (Leymebamba). Glad you stopped at the museum, across the street there was a little open air cafe that had decent coffee they hand roasted. Not sure if they are still open but they did have a...

    Traveling the Pan American highway

We drove the Americas north to south (2015-2019) in a 4x4 pop top van, it's a great trip. When we get a chance we'll check out some of your videos. Oh, nice looking Troopy!

What is your favorite Go-To knife for overlanding.

EDC is a CRKT Mini My Tighe (CR1093K), I could use an upgrade but that little knife has served me well for over a decade. I also sometimes carry a knifeless Leatherman (Rebar) since there are places that don't allow pocket knives. Mandi's EDC is a Kershaw Ken Onion Scallion (1620BLST). Our...

    Overlanding in different continents

You can ship your rig from S.A. to Africa. There are several shipping companies that assist overlanders and, depending on ports, there are vessels that take vehicles and passengers. Typically vehicles are transported in a container or roll on - roll off, depending on vehicle size. WikiOverland...

    Non Lethal self protection

Can it come with oil slick shoes?

    Non Lethal self protection

There are always worse options but if you don't carry pepper spray, hornet spray is definitely a better option than lead...assuming lead isn't the proper option. As in relation to the situation presented by @RJ Howell, I am sure facing a team of lawyers is less feared than not protecting one's...

    Non Lethal self protection

Wasp/Hornet Spray, good to have anyway. If you are thinking something for a life or death defense situation, a machete (also, good to have already). We all carry many things that can be used for self defense and it's probably best to use something you already carry. As an example, a breaker bar...

More than one unrepairable punctured tyre?

Something you already know, but others that may be planning a multi-year or multi-country trip that one day might read this may not, is to replace your tires sooner rather than later. We all like to stretch our money but replacing a set of tires that may have at least 5,000 miles on them is...

More than one unrepairable punctured tyre?

From our experience most only carry one spare when their tire size is somewhat available. Many trucks (MAN, Scania, etc) carry two spares but we have never heard of a double irreparable failure on any size rig. One truck owner told us they carry two because of how expensive their tires were...

    Butane Stoves - Pros, Cons

Just to add...we used our butane stove repeatedly over 14,000 feet without issue. IIRC, the highest was ~16,000 feet. The locals in several of those regions use both butane and propane, many also use dried horse manure. So...take a horse, multi-purpose spare.

Currently planning on having a long time overlanding trip

This is a very important point. There is a joke amongst Pan-Am couples…”it either ends in a baby or a divorce.” Many have divorced after their trip (some of those were honeymoons), we’ve also seen lifelong friendships end during the trip with one abandoning the other and flying home. Long trips...

How to buy motorcycle in Argentina as an alien?

You do not need a Carnet for the Americas. As for vehicle purchase, there are weird rules that can prevent a foreigner from crossing out with a vehicle registered in that country. Chile is where people buy vehicles but every now and then someone is denied leaving. Join the Pan-American Travelers...

Currently planning on having a long time overlanding trip

We scanned through that food article, it's ok. The bottom line is you'll be living out of a vehicle for three months so what you eat should be no different than living in a house. Sure, you can scale it down to one pot meals and use mostly rotisserie chicken(s) but what you are eating today is...
