Welcome my friend! Hope you will come join us on some meetups and trips! @Knitron and I are both rocking trailers and 3 kids as well! So much fun! Check out the rally points like @Cendee said.. we've got a lot of things in the works.
Yeah, Eye of the Whale is too much for my stock F-150, but the Salt Valley rd should be great, even a couple spots heading into Arches from Willow Springs will challenge you, but you should be fine with careful driving. Look forward to the trip report.. also, there are spots along the road into...
Here is the GPX and KML for the connecting trail from part 2 to part 3... plan 2-4 hours, depending how often you want to stop.. with a full size Raptor, plan to get some pin stripes on the south end of the trail after the sand hill.. the most fun part is down by the water and you can also camp...
Some dude on the trip... me.. might have convinced Dana to "see how deep it is" really, I just wanted an excuse to test the Kinetic Snatch strap in the mud, so later he could save my rig from sliding down the muddy hill...
Where you come in from, leave from, and the # of days will really impact the recommendations. More details will get you more info. Either way, it would be good to spend at least half a day seeing the tourist parts of DV if you've never been. Really depends on the things above, so much to do...
Check out Willow Springs for dispersed camping, lots of space, it'll be busy but you should be able to find a spot for a night just for your rig. Also, you can explore into Arches NP via the willow springs rd as far as your comfortable, I've seen Subarus go quite a way in, there are some great...
Here is my basic database of Camping locations around that portion of Southern Utah.. If you're spending a few days, I highly recommend driving to Toquerville falls and checking out the Sand Dunes @ Sand hollow. There is good free camping at either location noted on the map.. Long Valley Rec...
well.. here is an epic route.. see images attached..mixed pavement and dirt, you'll see a jump between part 2 and 3 because I'll have to provide you with GPS tracks for the trail that connects the 2 points. The following portions are off road:
1- Goblin Valley to Hwy 24 -(Wild horse road)...
Really depends where you want to spend your time, looks like an awesome route through Arizona and up through Utah on 89.. depends on if you want to spend 8 hrs on the pavement each day seeing what can be seen from highway.. or if you want to get from Chino to UT in a day, spend a few days seeing...
I wouldn't do DV or Mojave road solo.. I'd check for other trips going to that area around the same time frame, and make an alternate plan because if the weather decides to get crazy, you'll be stuck scrambling for somewhere to spend your time. A few hours of bad weather in either can change...
Its a tough call, you could drive the whole state on pavement and never get bored, on the flip side ..there are thousands of miles of trails.. how many days are you actually going to be in Utah? are to and from part of your 10 days? I can give you some ideas and we can build out from there...
Welcome! I grew up in Northern Utah, and now live in southern Utah.. nice setup, look forward to meeting up with you sometime.. reach out if you need anything!
Barracks was great, y'all may have gotten a few pinstripes.. but all your rigs would have been plenty adequate.. next time we'll have to get more of you along!
Had a blast running the Barracks.. but missed my peeps.. can't wait to get together again, don't worry @Knitron and @MarlinJames. I'll happily run it again with you!
Trail was easy, to mild.. nothing I wouldn't have done in my stock 05 Tacoma back in the day.. although a mild lift would be helpful in a few spots, mostly just fun very scenic drive through some of the most beautiful country with a few semi technical obstacles..
Meeting at Maverik 15 N State St, Hurricane, UT @ 8:00 AM to run the Barracks trail.. Starting off the Coral Pink Sand Dunes road running north to Mt. Carmel Jct. on the East side of Zion NP. Come prepared to splash, dig, pull. We will cross the river nearly 20 times. Bring your A game.. this...
