    Freeze Drying Food

...to use. We vacuum seal the stuff and it seems to last at least a couple of years stored in the basement. Some of our successes include: * Tomato sauce or salsa: spread on saran wrap, it turns into a kind of fruit leather. Add to your noodles or rice when cooking. Boom. * Cooked ground beef...

What Propane Fire Pit do You Recomend?

...its cooking platform and something small to cook. Nothing like finding a snowy empty meadow and firing up the pit for some grilled cheese and tomato soup. Or grilling up some steaks and veggies while at the base of ElCap during a snow flurry. I'm sure the Ammo can style pits can do the...

    Let them eat SPAM!

You hit on one of my favorite ways to eat Spam. I will slice it with a tomato slicer and fry up a few pieces. While it's frying I'll make a couple pieces of toast. I slather the toast with a little butter and then some spicy German mustard. Then the Spam goes on top of that (typically 2...

    Let them eat SPAM!

Same here. I use a vintage tomato slicer to get good, even 1/4" slices.

How thin do you slice it?

    Let them eat SPAM!

I will never say no to an SLT: SPAM, lettuce and tomato sandwich, especially if the SPAM has been fried crispy and is still warm when you bite in. Homegrown tomatoes and homemade mayo make it a poor person's lunch fit for a king!

i'll add! Try roasting tomatoes and jalapeño on your skottle, lightly tossed in olive oil, remove jalapeño seeds, or don't depending on your level of spiciness! Roast until skins char and toss in a small handful of pine nuts, toast seeds for a few seconds. add all ingredients to your blender...

Too good to leave at home....

EXCELLENT info and breakdown. the wife is much better at this type of thing than i am and she has been finding bits and pieces of info, but you pretty nailed it in a just a few sentences. we are using the wrong flour, not enough fridge time, overworking it and then def used way too much sauce...

...before peeling into the oven lessening the amount of bitter charred flour on the floor. it could be your toppings ratio. I use 3 floz of tomato sauce (room temperature) per 10/11oz of dough stretched to 11 inches, my (3oz) fior di latte is already torn, basil leaves already picked and sea...

    Let them eat SPAM!

...guess Spam is not in the "super cheap eats" domain any longer. Wife was silly enough to leave me alone at home while she visited her family and I started making burrito mix with spam. One can of spam diced and warmed/smoked on the Traeger, added to one cup of cooked rice and a diced tomato...

    12v fridge recommendations

:) In principle you are right, but I can see your are not a beer drinker.. Half of my 40L engel is occupied by beer and Baileys.. And those need to be cold. Having them warm is very risky for health and can also lead to expensive divorces .. When they will invent a good warm beer, I...

    12v fridge recommendations

We’ve done a lot of miles as well and the advice about how most items don’t need refrigeration is spot on. Even store bought eggs in the US that are refrigerated can be stored outside the fridge for a long time (crack each one in a separate bowl to check them if concerned). We do have an Engle...

Anyone For Meatless Meals While Tripping?

That is a great steer and I actually have tomato powder in the pantry but I have not used it yet. I have been thinking of ways to put it to use especially as I have been looking at ways to avoid a cooler/fridge when traveling in the Jeep.

Anyone For Meatless Meals While Tripping?

sounds really tasty... was wondering if you ever used tomato powder in dishes? i've been using it for a while and i've done a similar bean dish where i already had a lot of juice from canned beans, so instead of using another liquid, tomato paste, i used the dried tomato powder which has a...
