Just a suggestion, but if you have the time I'd highly suggest taking a canoe up river (current is easy to paddle against) and visit Fern Canyon. Very beautiful place. When I did it, we camped a few hundred yards up river from the Fern Canyon entrance and made it an over night trip.

I always carry extra. Better safe then sorry. It also depends on how many days you stay. Panther junction is the closest place to get fuel in the park but they can also be out. I always get fuel in marathon or alpine just in case.

No it is not mandatory. There are two fuel stations in the park, (Panther Junction & Rio Grande Village), and there will always be someone who will bail you out. But it is certainly a good idea, since if you are going all over the park, you will burn a lot of fuel. I went the same date last year, park was not crowded and both fuel stations in the park had plenty, even if it was about 50 cents/gallon more than outside the park.

Curious if they open back to public by then. Last time I called to get a reservation, they were no longer letting people up the road. Will be a nice couple of hours if they do though.

I plan to leave Tuesday, camp along the way in the monahans sand dunes park or outside ft Stockton then drive in to panther junction early Wednesday morning to get backcountry sites.

I’ve done that too. Years ago. Like in June when it’s 96 in basin at 8pm. Terlingua and Lajitas were like ghost towns. Actually kinda spooky. My kids were little then. Totally freaked them out

Only place ive seen a lot of people is in the basin and Rio grande village and the other place I can’t think of. I always camp in the back roads of the park.

I love BB I live about 9 1/2 hrs away but try to go a least twice a year. Here is a pic from this last March I always go for Milky-way pics since BB is know for having the darkest skies in the US. This was on the March New moon.

What I meant was Chili Cook Off brings 10K to the area. Other times to avoid are Spring Break.

I’ve stayed at glen springs 2. 1 is always taken up. 2 has a good view of what I call the Mexican lights there just like the Marfa lights. Pretty crazy.
