Still way too hot. I live in Dallas and am heading to Ouray 9/1 and maybe Moab for a day or two. I’m staying in a Airbnb this trip with maybe a day or two in the Jeep. Never slept in my Jeep before so we will see how that goes. I think I’m going to try the Xprite Nitepad and see if I can sleep on that. I’m not a tent kind of guy. I need some comfort and real shelter. And I don’t see myself dumping $10K on an Ursa Minor or a rooftop tent. Another question are dogs allowed. I know some places don’t allow them and my dog will always be with me wherever we go.
I’ll be heading to Telluride/Ouray 1st week in September as well. Keep a lookout for a white 4Runner with a white furry navigator
Cool. Maybe we can do a trail or two together. I will be in a all white Jeep Rubicon Recon with my boy in the back. I’m leaving from Dallas on 8/31 and doing small chunks. Hangin with a friend in Amarillo on 8/31 and checking out Palo Duro Canyon. Then headed to Taos for a day. And then staying in Ridgway. Doing a few hikes with my dog and lots of trails. Might head to Moab for a day on 9/7 and then home. Maybe we could do a trail or two. What are your dates? Where are you leaving from ??
Leaving from Houston staying in Amarillo on the way. I use to be able to push farther but I’m taking it easy. Labor Day weekend and all is keeping everything tentative at this time. My son is in Annapolis so not sure if the wife wants to go up for that weekend or not. So... could be leaving as early as Sunday or as late as Tuesday. I plan on hoteling it but not opposed to camping a night out if the sun and stars align themselves. I don’t have an itinerary. Just planning on bumming around. Maybe even getting lost again

Anyone up for going in January? I was thinking of reserving a site in Chisos Mountains. There are some sites that you can reserve. Looking at getting there on Wednesday evening and leaving on Sunday afternoon. Exact dates unknown though. Doing the tent thing also. Days that I'm there we'll be running some trails to include Black Gap. Will get cold at night but during the day should heat up to the 60's.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Winter is the best time. I could be down. I like doing a little bit of both. Remote camping and staying at the lodge or near by accommodations.

I have not been to Big Bend in over 20 years. So it will be like my first time. Looking forward to the stars.

I went end of summer last year. Loved it. Still too hot for most tourists so park was pretty empty, not to hot for me.

Never camped before during the winter time..
Then why are you commenting Texas winters in BB can be snow & ice or t-shirts. Personally I love BB in the winter time. Especially on clear cool/cold nights. An everlasting experience.

Cause I live in West Texas and I work outside year round. Winter camping not on my list of to do’s right now [emoji28].

I can handle snuggling in my sleeping bag when its cold out. Sweating butt naked with the heat radiating from the earth not so much. But I’m getting kinda old.

What are your plans on camp sites and dates. I'm looking at going in January hopefully and possibly in Chisos Basin.
I was thinking the 18th -21st of January. The campsites that I camp at are first come first serve in the primitive areas through out the park. You can stay at the basin and I can meet up with you.

We hope to head up to Christmas Mountain on the 27th if allowed.
Curious if they open back to public by then. Last time I called to get a reservation, they were no longer letting people up the road. Will be a nice couple of hours if they do though.
